Queens v Rangers Match Ball Auction 31st October 2007
Queens Directors and Management are very grateful to all supporters groups who continually use their ingenuity raising funds for the Club. One initiative which is soon to 'go live' is to auction the ball used in the Scottish Cup Quarter Final tie played at Palmerston on 7th March 1976.

Having seen off St Johnstone and Ayr United in earlier rounds, Queens drew Glasgow Rangers in the Quarter Final tie and were 'narrowly defeated' by five goals to nil...
In Bill Jardine's excellent book 'The Queens 1919 - 1995' he described the game as follows:

"Come Saturday 7th March and Queens had Rangers at Palmerston in the Scottish Cup Quarter Final. The Doonhamers were caught in a five goal flood that washed them out of the Cup. The final 5 - 0 scoreline reflected the one sided nature of the match. Queens side was Ball, McChesney, Thorburn, Clark, Boyd and McLaren, Dempster, P. Dickson, Reid, O'Hara and G. Dickson. The crowd was 18,700."

Club Press Officer Bill Goldie recently came across the ball in his attic and has kindly donated it to Jim Harkness and the New Bazaar Doonhamers to auction. It is hoped that all Queens players who took part in the game, as well as manager Mike Jackson, will autograph the ball, thus making it that extra bit special.

Tommy today with the match ball
Just today the ball was all the way up in Cupar, Fife in the hands of Queens legend Tommy O'Hara who dutifully signed the ball for the New Bazaar team.

Look out for further updates, including details of the auction itself, over the next few weeks as the ball wings its way around the country!

YOUTH INITIATIVE REPORTS 31st October 2007
Clyde 16s v QOS 16s

QOS 16s were away to Clyde on Sunday, the game playing played on the astrograss surface at Broadwood in very windy conditions. QOS started well creating a number of chances but failing to capitalise on their early pressure. Reilly and Orsi in particular going close. The home side took a rather fortunate lead just before the first break when a high corner-kick was caught by the wind and blown into the QOS net at the back post. In the second half QOSıs hard work was rewarded when a cut-back to Degnan on the edge of the box was drilled hard and low into the net for the equaliser. QOS continued to play well and were unlucky not to add to their score when once more both Orsi and Reilly went very close, both attempts hitting the side-netting. The third period was QOSıs best spell of the game, McCann and Solley both getting a grip of the midfield with good passing and movement. In the closing minutes trialist Grimlay headed on a long clearance from keeper Boyd into the path of Reid who controlled the ball well, before sidefooting past the home keeper and into the net to complete a tough away fixture for the naturally delighted QOS squad.

QOS 15s v Arbroath 15s

QOS took on a strong, physical Arbroath side at the Dumfries Academy playing fields on Sunday. There were competitive challenges from both sides in the early exchanges, with neither side able to play any kind of fluent game. The consequence of one of these exchanges produced the first goal for QOS scored by Abdul after a brave header from centre half, Thomson. QOS settled to a better passing game and excellent work from Dillon and Murphy led to Abdul scoring his and QOSıs second goal with a pacy run down the left and finishing from a very tight angle. There was also superb hold up play from Johnston who returned after a long period of injury.

In the second period QOS increased their advantage when Murray scored with a deft touch from an excellent cross from trialist McClymont.

In the third period, QOS went close once more and Ogston and Johnston produced some fine interplay which led to Ogston hitting the post with a cracking drive. QOS failed to add to their lead and in the final minutes, Arbroath scored a late consolation goal, an unstoppable shot giving keeper Rajovic no chance. This was a game where both sides gave no quarter, but QOS never looked like losing and remained in control throughout.

Ayr United 14s v QOS 14s

QOS 14s faced a strong wind in the first period on Sunday but took an early lead when Handling took the ball out wide before drilling a low hard shot across the dace of the goal for Dunn to knock home. QOS doubled their lead five minutes later courtesy of a penalty kick. Muirhead's effort came back off the post but Hutton was quickest to react and he fired the ball back into the goalmouth where it was deflected by a home defender into the net. Just before the end of the first period the home side struck twice to level the game. In the second period the home side took an early lead and while QOS played some good football and created good chances, they were unable to find the net. QOS went all-out for the equaliser from the start of the third period and when a corner-kick was played back to centre-half Anderson on the edge of the box, his low hard shot into the bottom corner of the net gave the home keeper no chance and secured a well-deserved daw for a jubilant QOS squad. The QOS coaches were delighted with the QOS performance and a good game played in the right spirit was enjoyed by a good crowd of spectators.

QOS 13s v Livingston 13s

Both teams enjoyed spells of possession in the first period, but it was QOS who struck first, Park outstripping the visiting defence to fire home. Fine goalkeeping by Latimer, and stout defending by the QOS defence of Edgar, Fleming, McMinn and McDonald, kept the Livingston strikers at bay until the closing minutes of the period, when the visitors scored an equalizer.

Livingston took an early lead in the second period with a looping header, but QOS equalized shortly after, following a good run and pass from Syme, Davidson squared to give McColm a clear sight of goal, and he made no mistake. But the visitors fought back and retook the lead. QOS refused to lie down, and again McColm, with his second goal of the day levelled the scores at the end of the second period. The third period continued in the same vein, with both teams giving their all. It was Livingston who regained the lead courtesy of a penalty. Once again the QOS youngsters came good, bringing the scores level for the third time, Park firing home his second of the game. With the game heading for a hard-fought and deserved draw, the referee awarded the visitors another controversial penalty, and with almost the last kick of the ball, the visitors took the spoils. This was arguably the best performance of the season so far from the young QOS team, and it was a disappointed squad at full-time. However the coaches were extremely proud of the way the boys played, with their commitment again never in question, and for long spells they had one of the best sides in the league on the back foot. The opposition coaches agreed that a draw would have been a fair result, in what was their hardest game of the season.

A Herculean Task 30th October 2007
Queens face a Herculean task on Saturday when they take on high-flying league leaders Hamilton Accies at Palmerston. With almost one third of the season gone they sit six points clear at the top of the table with ourselves bottom. However, it's the type of match Queens might just turn around and win!

Gordon Chisholm rates them highly and says, "They're the in-form side at present with only one defeat in 11 league games. They've had a great start and no one can deny them that--so all credit to them. Billy Reid has developed a system that works and they're the team to beat at the moment.

"It's going to be a real tough one as they have a good squad, a good blend and a lot of good young players like Offiong and the lad McCarthy. I said at the start of the season that they were 'dark horses' and the team to watch and I've been proved right. However, no way are we 'running scared' of them. I'm heading up to Tannadice to watch them play Dundee United in the CIS Cup tomorrow night and I'm fully expecting a real close tie.

"Hamilton only beat us 1-0 at New Douglas Park in early season and we 'gifted' them the goal. I'm fed up to my back teeth going on about the bad goals we've conceded this season--it's just not acceptable. To go up to Livingston and score two really good goals I'd expect to get a bit more than a draw out of it, but a point was all we managed. Basic schoolboy errors cost us both goals which frustrates me. It was yet another match we should have won--there's no doubt about about that.

"We have good quality in our squad but we're under-achieving out on the park. There's still a good attitude in the camp and the players are working hard but that bit of luck that every club needs isn't coming our way.

"No team has yet 'cut us open' this season but we're still needing that bit extra cover in the centre-back positions and that's a problem I'm looking at closely as we must endeavour to keep more 'clean sheets'.

"We had a useful 'bounce' match against Ayr United at Somerset Park yesterday and beat them 4-1 with two goals apiece from 'Dobbs' and John O'Neill. It gave us an opportunity to field players who haven't featured much over the full 90 minutes such as David Bingham, Jamie Mole, Brian Gilmour and Neil McGowan, and that was good. However, doing well in 'bounce' games isn't enough, we need to go out and do the business in the league where it really matters".

Disappointing cup draw 30th October 2007
Queens' bad luck in cup competitions this season continued yesterday when we were drawn away to Peterhead in the third round of the Scottish Cup. The Highland side currently lie fourth in the Second Division and the tie will take place at Balmoor Stadium on Saturday, 24th November.

Said Chairman, David Rae, "It's not the draw we wanted as it's a long, long journey up there, but we'll just have to get on with it".

The last time we met Peterhead was in August, 2002 in the opening round of the Challenge Cup. Newly signed Andy Goram was in goal that night and we beat them 2-0 up there and went on to lift the trophy beating Brechin City in the final. So, could meeting them again be a lucky omen?

Our near neighbours, Threave Rovers, have been drawn at home to Second Division promotion challengers Raith Rovers, while Dalbeattie Star face a tough test away to Junior cracks, Linlithgow Rose who beat Spartans 4-1 in the previous round.

Ayr United v Queens Friendly 30th October 2007
Last night Gordon Chisholm took his Queens squad for a friendly game against Ayr United at Somerset Park. The game, which provided a good work-out for both sides, ended in a 4 - 1 result for the Doonhamers with John O'Neil and Stephen Dobbie both scoring twice for Queens.

Amongst those appearing for Brian Reid's Ayr side were ex-Queens men Alex Williams, Murray Henderson, Steve Swift and Mark Whorlow.

Match reaction 27th October 2007
Despite a battling 2-2 draw at Almondvale this afternoon Queens dropped to joint bottom of the table following Stirling Albion's surprise 3-0 thumping of Dunfermline, however it ended a bad run of five straight defeats. A see-saw match saw us grab an early lead then go 2-1 down but snatch a vital equaliser to earn a share of the spoils. Sean O'Connor proved once again how important a player he is for us when he got on the end of a Steve Tosh cross in the 17th minute to put Queens 1-0 in front. But our joy was short lived for in the 21st minute Graham Dorrans rounded 'keeper Jamie MacDonald to slot home the equaliser after indecision in defence.

Ten minutes into the second half Tomas Pesir put the home side ahead but Stephen Dobbie grabbed what proved to be a vital equaliser five minutes later. Despite a blustery wind which proved troublesome the match was end to end stuff and played like a cup tie with a draw probably a fair result.

Said Gordon Chisholm afterwards, "A point away from home in this league is never bad but to find ourselves at the foot of the table following Stirling's victory is not something I'm happy about. Normally two goals away from home is enough but today it only earned us a draw. We got our nose in front for a change with a well taken goal but once again we threw our advantage away with another defensive error. That's what we've been doing all season - shooting ourselves in the foot. When their second goal went in I said to myself, 'here we go again', but then Dobbs popped up to get a quick equaliser. It might have been an enjoyable game for a neutral and although we got a point we could have done better. But the lads are still showing a good attitude and we're gradually getting bodies back. It's a tight league this and it can all change in the space of a fortnight."

Congratulations to two of our local sides who won their Scottish Cup ties today and now join us in the draw for the third round. Dalbeattie Star, with a smattering of former Queens players in their side won 2-0 at Selkirk who had our former 'keeper John Dodds in goal, while Threave Rovers beat Stenhousemuir 1-0 at home. In the Threave line-up were ex-Queens man Vinny Parker and our own James Baty and the team is coached by our former striker Euan Brydson, Stenhousemuir had former Queens stars Brian McLaughlin and Andy Thomson. Alas Annan Athletic crashed 5-2 to Huntly at Galabank with former Queens man Stuart Hill scoring the second Annan goal.

Injury problems still linger 25th October 2007
Queens' injury problems show little sign of improving! On the plus side Neil McFarlane and Stevie Tosh trained this week and the manager is hoping the two of them will be fit for the trip to Livingston. But Gordon Chisholm was not all that happy and added, "Both Eric Paton and Sean O'Connor are out, Jim Thomson and Brian Gilmour are both suffering from a virus so it will be a late decision whether they play or not and added to that Paul Burns has twisted his ankle and will be sidelined for two to three weeks".

On a happier note, Jim Lauchlan has had a scan for his groin injury and has got the go-ahead to re-start training.

'Reidy' to manage Ayr United 24th October 2007
Congratulations to Brian Reid who has been named as the new manager of Ayr United to succeed Neil Watt. He spent three good years at Palmerston and always said he enjoyed his time down here. It was John Connolly who brought him on board and he soon struck up a good partnership with Jim Thomson in central defence in same season that we topped Division One for five magical weeks.

Two of the more famous clubs he played for were Rangers and Blackpool and some of the tales he told of the dressing-room antics at Ibrox in the Gascoigne, Goram and McCoist era were hilarious. Good luck at Somerset big man.

Six pointer on Saturday 24th October 2007
Queens hit the high road to West Lothian on Saturday to take on Livingston. It's an even more important match for us than Saturday's game against St Johnstone since we are sitting neck-and-neck with Livvy in second bottom place--so it's a real six pointer.

We did beat them 1-0 at Palmerston back in August and followed that up with a win at Morton but have picked up only two points since then. Unfortunately, that win at Cappielow has been out only success in seven games 'on the road' and we've netted only two goals into the bargain.

On top of that we've had disappointments at home against St Johnstone, Stirling Albion and Dunfermline with late goals and a missed penalty costing us dearly, but at least we've chalked up six points on our own patch. Nevertheless, an away win is long overdue, and three points at Almondvale is what the fans deserve.

On our last visit there we won 1-0, with Jim Thomson of all people the scorer. It was an overhead kick in the dying minutes and earned us our first away win of the season and, coming just two days before Christmas, was an excellent present for fans and players alike.

Said Gordon Chisholm,"It's a big, big game for us but it's every bit as important for Livingston. We're level on points and although it's a wee bit early to talk about six-pointers, it's certainly a massive match. We've dropped a lot of stupid points which has put us under pressure but if we can get a fully fit squad back I'm confident we can move up the table. We've put ourselves in this position, so it's up to ourselves to get out of it.

"But it's early days yet! The league is still so tight and only seven points separate Morton in fourth place and Stirling Albion at the bottom. We need a win on Saturday which would act as a great confidence boaster and, in effect, could well push us up into fifth place. It's all about confidence now and believing in ourselves".

Asked how he felt about new signing, David Nixon's performance at Perth the manager replied, "The lad did OK. He's young and he's raw but I don't think he had enough help from some of those around him.

"Ideally I wouldn't normally have played Eric Paton and big Sean who'd undergone keyhole surgery 11 days earlier. But, with so many injuries it was a case of needs must! Sean is a big player for us and did well in the 70 minutes he was on the park. Eric required two injections before kick-off to enable him to play through the pain barrier and it says a lot for them both".

QOS 16s v Alloa Athletic 16s

QOS 16s were hosts to Alloa Athletic 16s at the David Keswick Centre on Sunday, the game being played in excellent conditions. In the first period QOS were much the better side, their movement and passing a delight to see but unfortunately they failed to convert any of the chances their good play created. QOS continued to dominate the second period and opened the scoring when a well-weighted pass from Degnan found Johnstone whose first touch took him past his marker and as the keeper advanced, lobbed him from 20 yards to put QOS in the lead at the end of the second period. Early in the third period QOS doubled their lead, Miller with a tremendous effort from 30 yards giving the Alloa keeper no chance. Moments later, a well-struck free-kick from Dillon was finger-tipped away by the visiting keeper to prevent QOS from increasing their lead. In the final minutes of the game, Alloa scored against the run of play, to complete the scoring for the day. The QOS coaches were delighted with the performance of their young squad against a very strong Alloa side.

Raith Rovers 15s v QOS 15s

QOS 15ıs resumed their programme of development games on Sunday against Raith at Dalgety Bay Sports Centre. With a depleted squad of only twelve players (two of whom were goalkeepers) QOS took on a strong Raith team and before they had got used to the astroturf surface found themselves a goal down in the first few minutes. QOS keeper McCulloch brought off an excellent save to prevent the home team from increasing their lead and this settled QOS and they proceeded to take the game to Raith, creating chances with Abdul and Murphy both forcing the home keeper to make some good saves to prevent a deserved equaliser. In the second period, QOS continued to dominate the play and superb defensive work by the back four of Pomfret, Thomson, Holt and Newlands, left keeper Rajovic with virtually nothing to do. Dillon and Parker in central midfield drove the team on and a series of chances were created which led to top scorer Thomson scoring with a trademark header, to level the scores. In the final period QOS continued to pressurise the Raith defence and Pomfret, Newlands, Parker and Dillon all went close without scoring. This was an impressive performance considering the previously mentioned shortage of players due to holidays and injuries. QOS played with considerable style and commitment which pleased the coaching staff tremendously.

QOS 14s v Raith Rovers 14s

With 3 out of 4 of the QOS Youth teams playing Raith Rovers teams today, QOS 14s were the only team to have a home fixture the game going ahead at the Kingholm in almost perfect conditions for football. QOS opened the scoring early in the first period following a really excellent move involving six players giving Johnstone an easy opportunity to hit the net. QOS doubled their lead midway through the period when Service found the net following another good passing move. Early in the second period Raith reduced their deficit but QOS hit back almost immediately when a low cross from Dunn was hit home by Johnstone for his second goal of the day. In the final period although both teams played some good football the game ended without any more goals being scored. Congratulations to both squads of players and coaches for a very entertaining game played in the correct spirit.

Raith Rovers 13s v QOS 13s

QOS 13s travelled to Cardenden to face Raith Rovers, hoping to maintain their good form following an enforced two-week break due to postponements. It was the impressive home side that started the stronger, passing the ball well, but QOS dug in and finally got a foothold in the game. With the first period looking as though it would end goal-less, Park pressurised a back-pass, and when the home keeper half-cleared, it fell to Montieth who volleyed the ball into the net to put QOS one up at the break. QOS started the second period more positively, and following good pressing by McColm to gain possession, Park fired home, to double QOSıs lead. Soon after, Montieth latched on to a long through ball, and chipped the advancing keeper to increase QOSıs lead. The home side never stopped trying and had an opportunity to reduce the deficit, but missed from the penalty spot. However they were awarded a second penalty just before the interval, this time making no mistake, to reduce their deficit. The third period saw both teams continue to pass the ball well, and only good goalkeeping, by the home keeper in particular, meant that the final period ended goal-less, although it took a brilliant goal-line headed clearance to prevent Phillips from scoring his first goal for QOS. This was an excellent performance and result for QOS, as they were missing several members of the squad, which meant substitutions were limited, and the players were involved for longer periods than usual. However, their determination, effort and commitment saw them put in a good performance against a very good home side. The players gave their all for the jersey, and the coaches were delighted with the performance on the day.

Match reaction 20th October 2007
St Johnstone stretched their unbeaten run to nine games with a comfortable 2-0 victory at McDiarmid Park this afternoon. They remain in third place but we still languish in second from bottom. We did manage to get three of our injury hit squad fit - Sean O'Connor, Jamie McQuilken and Eric Paton - albeit the later only made it after a couple of pain killing injections prior to kick-off. Keeper Jamie MacDonald appeared to be at fault for the opener in the tenth minute when he hesitated at a cross and on loan Gretna striker Kenny Deuchar bundled the ball over the line. But it was later revealed that he was pushed. Deuchar was causing the Queens defence all sorts of problems and he could have had a hat-trick in the first half. When Andy Jackson blasted home number two in the sixty-fifth minute it was all over bar the shouting and as far as Queens were concerned it was down to damage limitation.

It was another disappointing and frustrating afternoon for manager Gordon Chisholm who said, "St Johnstone are a good side and have hit form lately and to be honest had they taken all their chances the score could have been higher however I felt their opening goal should have been chalked off as our keeper was pushed by Kenny Deuchar and Jamie is adamant that he was. Deuchar can be a right handful at times but he's a proven goal scorer however I still don't think that one today should have been allowed. When you lose a goal like that it makes things difficult for in our position we're looking for a bit of luck from time to time but it never seems to come. We're playing in the tightest league in Scottish football and came up here today to try to keep a clean sheet. We've been losing far too many soft goals and when we go behind we find it difficult to pull it back. Anyway it's Livingston next week and we're hoping to get more of our injured players back, roll up our sleeves and get on with it."

Attendance 2,710 with 180 travelling fans.

New defender to sign 18th October 2007
Queens are all set to sign a new defender tomorrow, David Nixon from Motherwell. Terms have been agreed and the 19-year-old will put pen to paper on an emergency three month loan to take him through to late January. David, who stands 6ft 1in, graduated through the Fir Park youth system and has been professional at Motherwell for two years. Here's hoping he can live up to his famous namesake of the 1950s, David Nixon, the magician, and pull some much-needed points out of the hat.

Said Gordon Chisholm, "I've seen him play before and he impressed me. He was in our line-up which beat Airdrie 4-1 last Friday, and with so many injuries just now it will give us some extra cover at the back. He can play either centre-back or left-back and he'll be in the squad for Saturday's match".

www.motherwellfc.co.uk
The manager will be delaying team selection until the very last moment with so much uncertainty over the fitness of players and added, "All I can really say at the moment is that Jim Lauchlan is out--he's going in for a scan on his groin. There's eight others doubtful--some trained today and some didn't--so it will be a late, late call as who actually plays. Mark Whorlow has now left the club and we wish the lad well".

"MP AND QUEENS FANS MEET TAYSIDE POLICE

Dumfries and Galloway MP Russell Brown and members of the Doonhamers Travel Club have met with Tayside Police to raise Queens fans' complaints about heavy-handed policing and stewarding at Dundee F.C.'s Dens Park stadium.

Inspector Sandy Brodie and Constable Graeme Anderson came down to Dumfries on Friday (12 October) after Russell Brown and the Travel Club wrote to Tayside Police to raise travelling Queens fans' concerns about their treatment by police and stewards during Queen of the South's visit to Dundee FC's Dens Park on Saturday 11 August.

This followed on from fans' complaints last season about Dens Park stewards refusal to allow supporters with horns and rattles into the stadium.

Russell Brown, who along with Ross Corbett and Francis Currie of the Doonhamers Travel Club met with the police officers, said, "It was a very constructive meeting and we were grateful that Inspector Brodie and Constable Anderson came down to discuss fans' concerns with us. In general they were of the view that the police and stewards at Dens Park do no more than enforce the ground regulations, and that inconsistent policing elsewhere makes their methods look hard-line.

"However, it did become apparent that in relation to some of the specific complaints, Tayside police were quite relaxed, where Dundee clearly are not. For example, they saw no major problem in fans standing in seated areas at some points of a game, like when the teams are coming onto the pitch or when a team scores. But from what Queens fans have told me the Dundee stewards are much stricter about commanding them to stay in their seats during the whole game.

"They also didn't see too much of a problem with fans taking horns and rattles into the ground. This surprised me somewhat as when I contacted Dundee about fans' refusals on this basis, the club claimed that the police had recommended this course of action because they deemed them to be articles which if misused could cause injury.

"Obviously I don't want to pass too much judgement until I've been up to Dens Park myself, but from what I'm being told by fans, and indeed the police, I suspect much of this could be resolved if Dundee exercised a little bit more common sense in how they steward matches."

Russell Brown will join Queens fans on their trip to the club's next match at Dundee FC's Dens Park in January to see for himself how the authorities deal with supporters."
It's Saints on Saturday 16th October 2007
Queens have a massive battle on their hands when they travel to meet on-form St Johnstone on Saturday with no fewer than eight players currently on the treatment table. Nevertheless, Gordon Chisholm is still looking forward to the game.

Said the manager this afternoon, "McDiarmid Park is always a nice place to play, but we fully realise it's yet another tough one. St Johnstone were slow off the mark this season but have now hit a bit of form which has seen them move up into third spot in the table. They're unbeaten at home in the league and into the final of the Challenge Cup so Owen Coyle will be a lot happier man than he was a couple of months ago.

"We drew 3-3 at Palmerston in the opening league match, but fans and players alike all know it was a game we could have and should have won after leading 3-1 with less than four minutes left. There's no doubt at all it was two points dropped. In this division there's a very fine line between winning and losing and, as I've preached so often before, we must tighten up in defence and stop giving away silly goals.

"We had a good workout at Airdrie on Friday, beating them 4-1 with eight regulars missing and two trialists playing. And I must say that one of John O'Neill's goals was as good a strike as I've seen for ages. The busiest man at Palmerston right now is our physio, John Kerr, who's been working overtime to try and get as many of the 'walking wounded' as possible fit for the weekend.

"What we need is for Queen of the South to show the same attitude and fighting spirit as our national team. What Scotland has achieved for such a small country and in the hardest group is fantastic. It's brought pride back to Scottish football and gives us all a lift. I only hope they keep it going in Georgia tomorrow night and it would be tremendous if they could qualify for the finals.

"My one big worry is the injuries they've now picked up and the lack of reserve strength compared with the likes of France and Italy. I can see there's a similarity there between Queens and Scotland at present--we both have the same problems".

300 up for J.T. 15th October 2007
Assuming he takes the field at McDiarmid Park on Saturday, our skipper, Jim Thomson will reach another milestone in his illustrious career at Queen of the South--his 300th first team appearance.

A Kilsyth lad, born and raised in the shadow of the Campsie Fells, he played Juvenile football for his local side, Campsie Black Watch before moving up a grade to sign for Clyde, then Stenhousemuir.

Jim joined Queens on New Year's Day, 1997, and his debut was against Hamilton Accies (who were playing at Cliftonhill then) on January 22nd."It wasn't the most memorable of debuts" he recalls, "As we lost 4-1". After two and a half happy seasons at Palmerston and a 'Player of the Season' award he moved on to Arbroath but insisted, "I didn't want to leave but it was for personal reasons! However, it took very little persuasion to get me to sign on again with Queens when my two year contract at Gayfield expired.
"I've made Dumfries my home now with Victoria and my baby daughter, Bailey, and I'm pleased to announce that I'm getting married in June next year. I'm a reformed character now, and all those wild Saturday nights out are behind me", he joked.

Apart from football itself Jim is heavily involved on the commercial side at Palmerston nowadays, and the 'Active Schools Programme' saw him visit over 100 local schools last season and he admits he loves getting out and about and meeting all the kids.

His most memorable game in the 299 matches he's played in was up at Station Park in April, 2002, when we beat Forfar 3-0 to clinch promotion to the First Division. "Our fans were brilliant" he enthused. "There were over 800 of them up and it was like a home match for us. I'll never forget them all spilling onto the pitch at the final whistle and shouting for us to come out and celebrate with them.

Fans celebrate the Championship clincher at Forfar

"Another great moment of course was our first appearance in the final of the Challenge Cup final in 1997. We met Falkirk at Fir Park and although we lost 1-0 it was a tremendous battle and a colourful occasion. To me it was even better than our final win against Brechin City in the same competition five years later".

But, over the years Jim has had his fair share of injuries, the worst being a fractured cheek bone in a match against Stenhousemuir. "It was a player called Ian Ferguson who did the damage" he said clutching his face. "And I was out of football for a long time. I needed two metal plates inserted in my cheek--one was just taken out last year and the other will probably be there until the day I die".

Jim says he's really looking forward to hitting the 300 game mark and adds, "It's always been a race between Andy Aitken and I who'd reach the big 300 first. I thought Andy would beat me to it but he missed the whole of last season with a bad cruciate injury and that's the only way I got there first. However, I'm reliably informed that he's only four games behind me.

"However, we both realise that there will be no formal presentation from the club itself until we make 300 starts. And in fairness to the great players who came before us like Iain McChesney and Allan Ball and others such as Jim Patterson, Bobby Black and Nobby Clark, I think it's only fair".

YOUTH INITIATIVE REPORTS 15th October 2007
QOS 16s v Queensı Park 16s

Holidays and injuries meant three players, Parker, Thomson and keeper Radovic, were promoted to the QOS 16s squad from the 15s for this home game against QP on Sunday. Both defences dealt comfortably with the respective attacks and the first period ended goalless. Following some wise words from the QOS coaches during the first interval, QOS started the second period strongly and when striker Johnston was pulled down in the box young Thomson stepped up and confidently stroked the spot-kick home for the opening goal. QOS were now dominating midfield, Millar, Degnan, McCann and Nicol controlling the game for QOS. Black was unfortunate not to add a second goal for QOS, only a good save from the visiting keeper saving the day. However the second goal was not long in coming, a free-lick on the edge of the box found Miller crashing a great left-foot shoot into the net. QP tried hard to get back into the game bit the QOS defence of Dougan, West, Black and Paterson stood firm. QOS started the third period well, but two goals in a minute for the visitors put them on the back foot, and as QP pressed forward looking for the winner it looked like they had been successful when they scored with two minutes to go. But QOS rallied in the final minute and the hard-working Johnston up front got his and QOSıs reward with a deserved last-minute equaliser.

Arbroath 14s v QOS 14s

QOS 14s travelled north to Arbroath with a much weakened team through injuries and holidays but started brightly and scored twice in the opening period. The first when a lovely through ball from Hutton found Dougan who ran on to hit home. Just before the end of the period Hutton was again involved when his good free-kick delivery from the right wing was headed home by Murray to give QOS a comfortable lead at the first interval. In the second period the home side came more into the game and reduced their deficit. Hooper for QOS was unlucky when he had what seemed to be a good goal, ruled offside by the ref, but the second period ended with no more scoring. Early in the third period QOS looked to have tied up the game with two quick goals, Handley scoring both of them. However the home side had other ideas and as QOS tired, Arbroath raised their game, scoring three times to give them a rather fortunate draw.

Alan gets the boot(s) 13th October 2007
At the end of last season Queen of the South's Stephen Dobbie presented a pair of autographed boots (the ones he scored two goals with against Gretna) to the New Bazaar Doonhamers. They in turn put them up for auction and the sum of £275 was the highest bid by Alan Smith of Whilton, Northamptonshire, a keen Queens' fan himself.

Alan and his wife, Fiona, travelled all the way up to Palmerston to collect the prize prior to last Saturday's game against Dunfermline and were delighted with the reception they received.

Queens hit four 12th October 2007
A Queens' team, ravaged by injuries, beat Airdrie United 4-1 in a training match at New Broomfield today. Queens led 3-1 at the interval--Brian Gilmour opened the scoring, a trialist striker netted the second and John O'Neill hit the third from the penalty spot. O'Neill scored again in the second half to ensure a convincing victory.

Good news on Sean 10th October 2007
For a change we open with some good news. Sean O'Conner has undergone surgery on his injured knee and the report is very positive. The operation took place in Sheffield yesterday and he spent a night recuperating at his parent's home in the Midlands before travelling back to Dumfries today.

Speaking to the 'Website' this morning Gordon Chisholm said, "It's great news, and we could certainly do with some of that. It was only a 'clean up' job on the knee that's been bothering him for a while, but it was the same specialist that dealt with him before and he had a thorough look during the op and he was very positive at the outcome.

"I'll be speaking to Sean myself this afternoon but he'll just have to give it a couple of days to settle down. He's a crucial player and we need him back".

On the downside Stephen Dobbie and Bob Harris have been added to the injury list and the manager stated that he's only had nine or ten players in for training this week and added, "Thankfully we have a break this weekend and I've managed to fix up a 'bounce' game for Friday. I'm hoping to bring in one or two new players and this will give me the chance to have a good look at them".

And what does a manager do when he's got a Saturday off we asked 'Chis'. "Like everyone else I'll be watching Scotland playing the Ukraine" was the reply. "And tomorrow night I'll be keeping an eye on the Under-21 game between Scotland and Lithuania to see how Jamie MacDonald performs".

£210 for book 9th October 2007
The autographed book, 'Memories of the Modern Era', has raised the magnificent sum of £210 in a 'silent auction'. It was originally won as a prize in an end of season raffle in April but returned to the New Bazaar Doonhamers by the recipient, Cameron Scott, who said, "Although I'm a Queens' fan I'm not a 'diehard', so I wanted it to go to someone who'll appreciate it more than me".

Mark Blount tabled the top bid and he plans to hand it over to his father, Norman (our Chairman from 1994 to 1999) for his 65th birthday which he celebrates this week. A close second was Drew Low, the club's video man, who missed out by only £10.

Speaking on behalf of the New Bazaar Doonhamers Jim Harkness commented, "Coming on top of the £275 we made in the auction for Stephen Dobbie's boots, I'm really delighted with the figure. All monies raised by us go back to Queen of the South in some form and this year already we've sponsored shirts for the youth team who took part in the Milk Cup in Ireland, we had two entries in the annual Shirt Sponsorship Draw, sponsored two players and also three match balls".

Injuries strike again 8th October 2007
Just when we all thought that the injury crisis had sorted itself out, it reared it's ugly head once again on Saturday. Jim Lauchlan, Stevie Tosh, Neil MacFarlane and Eric Paton were all out injured with Jamie Adams 'long term' of course. Sean O'Connor, as we know, limped off injured against Dunfermline with his knee injury giving him trouble and goes into hospital tomorrow for 'keyhole surgery' and although striker, Jamie Mole is still officially on loan to us from Hearts he missed training on Thursday and Friday. It certainly doesn't make team selection easy but, with a two week break coming up, let's hope that the manager with have a bigger squad to choose from for the trip to St Johnstone.

Match reaction 6th October 2007
Queens were down to the bare bones this afternoon with a host of players out injured but started brightly and could well have been two up early on. The thirtieth minute mark proved a fatal time for us, Sean O'Connor limped off injured and when down to ten men Dunfermline raced upfield to score the opener. With Sean gone we lacked aerial power and that razors edge up front. We pushed forward in the second half - Andy Aitken hit the bar with a header and we came close on occasion but couldn't find the net. Controversy reigned in the dying minutes when Brian Gilmour was upended in the box and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Gilmour himself wanted to take the kick but was over-ruled and the job entrusted to regular spot kick man Stephen Dobbie. But to the dismay of the home fans the keeper saved his effort. Said Gordon Chisholm afterwards.

"To get nothing from the match was hard to take, especially as we had about half a dozen players missing, we always knew it would be a difficult one. I'm sorry that we've now lost our unbeaten home record as I think we should have had a share of the points. Their goal was a bit fortunate. Jamie made a good save at the first attempt but McManus was first to the rebound to slot home. We could have done better! Losing Sean was a big blow but all credit to the lads who were out there and worked very hard." On the missed penalty the manager was quick to point out, "Dobbs is our recognised penalty taker and has only missed one from the spot since he came here. He has a good record and I fancied him to score but he's now sitting there in the dressing room devastated. On hindsight wee Brian might have scored but he might have missed. I was in a no-win situation. Added Brian himself.

"It's been a very frustrating afternoon, first I was on the bench and only got about twenty minutes on the park. I won the penalty so I wanted to take it. I was up for it! However the manager has the final decision and although I was disappointed it's all in the past now."

Stephen Kenny didn't think it was a penalty and justice was done. Said the Dunfermline boss, "We had the better chances and I felt we deserved the win. However it was a hard game and I'm just happy to be going back up the road with all three points."

Crowd - 2,026, travelling support - 483.

Team News Latest 5th October 2007
It's very much a case of 'wait and see' as far as team selection for tomorrow's match with Dunfermline is concerned. Still out is Jim Lauchlan with a groin strain and also missing will be Stevie Tosh who was injured against Stirling. Neil MacFarlane is rated 50-50 while both Jamie McQuilken and Eric Paton we're being assessed after this morning's training session.

Said Gordon Chisholm, "Eric fell ackwardly last Saturday and his heel is giving him a bit of bother but I'm hoping he'll make it. Sean O'Connor is OK, although he's still not training all that much, but we all know how important it is to have him in the team. We've been nursing Sean along those past few weeks but, with the break coming up next week, we've booked him in for a 'tidy up' operation on his knee and we'll be 'keeping our fingers crossed' he'll be fit for the St Johnstone match".

Queens Training Update 4th October 2007
Back in August, at the start of our sixth season in the First Division, the club announced its status as ‘full-time’. At the time of the announcement, Chairman Davie Rae also advised that, having found it nigh on impossible to find adequate training facilities locally, training was to take place four days a week in Glasgow.

Queens have secured an excellent arrangement at the Glasgow Green Football Centre, right in the heart of the city. The Centre, which opened in November 2000, has state-of-the-art facilities including 18 different football pitches:

1 floodlit synthetic grass pitch 1 floodlit grass reinforced pitch 4 adult sized grass pitches 1 intermediate sized grass pitch 3 seven-a-side synthetic pitches 8 five-a-side synthetic pitches

Manager Gordon Chisholm feels that the facilities offered are ‘superb’ and, as well as having a variety of pitches to train on, the Centre offers our physio John Kerr the opportunity to work on any injuries or ‘niggles’ that the players have.

In addition to having Kenny Brannigan available to assist at training sessions, Chis’ has managed to secure input from ex-international Billy Dodds, who works with the outfield players and, former Celtic ‘keeper Peter Latchford, who works with Jamie McDonald and Stephen Grindlay on their goalkeeping technique.

The following photos were taken at last weeks Thursday training session.

Junior Blues News - Win a Wii with the latest edition Blue & White 4th October 2007
Edition 5 of the Queen of the South FC Junior Blues is complete and will be heading out to around 500 Junior Blues within the next couple of weeks.
The big interest this month for members of the JB club is the chance to win a Nintendo Wii. Also in the latest edition are regular slots such as Dougie's Diary and the Junior Blues Book Club but there's a lot more pack in to our Supporters Trust published 12 page bundle of fun.
Already on our 5th edition, the Junior Blues magazine has evolved from a single A4 sheet to a self-produced 12 page colour booklet. Although it's hard to produce a magazine which covers such a wide age range, we hope there is something for everyone (including parents of JB's!!).
As well as the regular Dougie's Diary and Junior Blues Book Club, this months edition has mini match reports, a Movie section, with this month Dreamworks BeeMovie and Stardust reviewed, an excellent A to Z of Paul Burns (our thanks to Colin Rutherford!), Junior Blues News, a Gaming page, Brainteaser and the first instalment of the history of Queen of the South. Add in the Wii competition as well and we're sure all Junior Blues will find something of interest in this months magazine.

Where Are They Now? 4th October 2007
Next up in the series of 'Where Are They Now?' articles for the Queens programme is club legend and cult hero 'Marvellous' Stevie Mallan.

Steve made 265 appearances for Queens, scoring 94 goals and was in the side that played in the club's first Challenge Cup Final back in November 1997.

Aged just forty, he is currently playing with Ayrshire side Auchinleck Talbot and insists that he wants to be the first Junior player ever to receive a full international cap for Scotland.

Here's hoping Stevie!

Another tough battle on the cards 3rd October 2007
Gordon Chisholm knows only full well that Queens have another tough battle on their hands when Dunfermline visit Palmerston on Saturday. Said the manager, "They were relegated last season and everyone, including myself, expected them to go straight back up again. They did get off to a bad start but are now beginning to find their feet. I watched them beat Ayr United last night to reach the final of the Challenge Cup but sometimes you don't get a true assessment from those mid-week cup-ties as players are 'rested' and the team shuffled about a bit.

"But they do have a strong squad with a lot of players with Premier league experience--so they'll be hard to beat. However, once we're out there on the park on Saturday it's all down to us and how we play ourselves.

"I'll be first to admit that we should have more points than we actually have. We've drawn games we should have won and lost games we should have drawn and it happened again against Stirling Albion. This league is so competitive so we must tighten up at the back, concentrate more and not make those silly errors which gives the opposition a 'lift'.

"We were poor in the first half on Saturday but I thought we showed a lot of character after the interval to come back then go in front. We worked hard to get there but let it slip away again in the dying minutes by sitting back far too deep. It was sickening to lose that goal so late. We could be sitting much higher in the table had we not conceded those poor goals".

The manager is also concerned with injury problems beginning to crop up again and added, "We've not had too many bodies in for training this week but I'm hoping it improves for the weekend. There's question marks against our two full-backs Eric Paton and Jamie McQuilken, also Jim Lauchlan who still has a groin strain, while Stevie Tosh and Neil MacFarlane are also in doubt. However I'm expecting most of them will be available come Saturday".

One member of the back-room staff who's really looking forward to the match is our First team coach, Stevie Morrison, who was a Dunfermline player himself for eight years.

SFA YOUTH INITIATIVE REPORTS 3rd October 2007
Ayr United 16s v QOS 16s

QOS 16s travelled to New Cumnock on Sunday to play Ayr United 16s, the game being played on the first-class surface of Glenafton Juniors ground in excellent conditions for a game of football. QOS started well and put lots of oressure on the Ayr defence in the first period but were unable to convert any of the many chances created. Mccann, Degnan and Johnstone were particularly impressive for QOS in a goalless first period. The home side came more into the game in the second period but with the QOS defence of Dougan, Black and West all doing their job and keeper Boyd confidently handling all crosses into the QOSıs penalty area, the second period also finished goalless. Early in the third period keeper Boyd brought off an outstandiing save to prevent Ayr from taking the lead. This boosted the QOS lads and they pulled themselves back into the game and getting their deserved reward. A Black free-kick out wide to Solley was crossed to Degnan whose first touch was superb, before beating his marker and lobbing the home keeper from 20 yards to score the only goal of the game. This was an excellent performance from the eleven-man squad, depleted due to injuries and holidays..

Elgin city 15s v QOS 15s

QOS travelled to Luncarty, Perth to play Elgin City on Sunday. Elgin made the better start to the match and after 15 minutes took the lead. This spurred QOS into action and they were soon back on level terms, an excellent ball by Murphy out wide to Dillon, whose equally excellent cross was hit home by Abdul, completing a superb move. QOS continued to press with Dillon and Parker prominent in the centre of mid-field. Ogston pressurised the Elgin defender into conceding a corner kick and from Newland's inch-perfect cross, centre-half Thomson finished with a powerful header from close range. Early In the second period QOS increased their advantage when Abdul was brought down in the box for a penalty kick. Thomson stepped up and slotted the resultant penalty kick into the corner of the net to continue his fine scoring run, which has made him top goal scorer at this stage of the season. During the rest of the second period, QOS had a number of excellent chances with both Ogston and trialist McClymont in particular going close. In the final period, Elgin reduced their deficit before a Parker free-kick re-instated QOSıs two-goal advantage. In the final minutes of the game, the fact that nine of the QOS squad represented Dumfries and Galloway Region in a National Trophy fixture only 24 hours earlier told, allowing Elgin to score twice to claim a rather fortunate draw. The team has a break over the October holiday and will resume their campaign with an away fixture against Raith Rovers on Sunday 19th, October.

QOS 14s v Livingston 14s

QOS 14s faced a very strong Livingston 14s side on Sunday (managed by Head of Youth Development at Livingston, ex-Queens player Graeme Robertson), and although neither team hit the net in the first period, Livingston were the better side and only excellent performances from central defenders Anderson and Potts helped by some good saves from keeper Morrison kept QOS in the game. QOS came more into the game in the second period with good deliveries from both wings causing the Livi keeper lots of trouble and on one occasion, only an excellent one-handed save by the Livi keeper prevented Handley from opening QOSıs account. Just before the end of the period Livi scored with a well-struck free-kick. Early in the third period the visitors scored twice and although QOS dominated the final 15 minutes they were unable to find the net. The QOS coaches were however pleased with the boysı attitude in face of some harsh and vigorous tackles and are sure that the boys will have learned lessons from the game.

Dumbarton 13s v QOS 13s

QOS 13s travelled to play Dumbarton 13s on Sunday and after a slow start took the lead, Syme scoring with a well-struck free-kick in the 20th minute.. QOS increased their lead three minutes later, Davidson hitting home a good cross from McColm and then Park outpaced the home defence to complete the scoring in the this period. It was a much more even game in the second period with both teams playing some good football, but with neither team finding the net, the period ended goalless. In the third period QOS upped their game and as their fitness started to tell, scored more goals. Park with his second of the day, Monteith and McColm also adding two each, and Chan completed the scoring with a delightful chip from 20 yards in the final minute. An excellent team performance with a special mention of our two keepers, Martin and Latimer who kept their first clean-sheet of the season. A final mention of one of the 13s coaches, Mark McMinn, who missed this excellent performance, due to taking part and completing the Great North Run in a very credible 2 hours and 9 minutes. Well done Mark!!

A season to remember 3rd October 2007
Dunfermline Athletic make the trip to Palmerston on Saturday for the first time in14 years. But that last visit was a match all Queens' fans will want to forget as they hammered us 6-0 in a B & Q Cup tie. Three year earlier however, we did much better in the Skol Cup. We beat the East Enders 2-1 on their home ground with both Ian McCall and Davie Irons in their line-up to set-up a lucrative game against Celtic at Parkhead which we lost narrowly, 2-1.

But it was season 1985-86 that saw us engaged in a tremendous battle with the 'Pars' for the League Championship in what turned out to be a 'two horse race' for the title. One person who remembers it more than most was local lad, Stewart Cochrane, who recalls, "It was a season I'll never forget for many reasons. We didn't win the Championship but we gave them a good run for their money. Three times we played them and honours were even! The first meeting ended goalless at Palmerston but we then lost 2-1 up at East End Park and although I scored it was disappointing as it brought to an end a fine run of 13 games unbeaten.

"However, come April and with the finishing line in sight we came face to face again at home with all to play for. We won 3-1, I scored twice with Kevin Hetherington getting the third and it was one of the most memorable encounters in my five years with my home town team. I'm told that my second goal that afternoon was rated 'second best ever seen at Palmerston' on one of the websites which I take as a great honour. Number One was Peter Dickson's fabulous winner against Ayr United in the Scottish Cup which I witnessed myself.

"Two weeks later we clinched promotion by beating Arbroath 1-0 at Gayfield. I had the pleasure of scoring the all important goal and, although I say it myself, it was one of my better ones. Great celebrations followed on the pitch and in the dressing room. The Directors then produced a crate of Champagne and we all adjourned to 'Tutties Neuk', a local pub, to toast our success with our fans. Although we didn't manage to win the title that year, we still made it to the First Division".
Stewart boasted that he could still rattle out the team that day and got it 'spot-on' in less than ten seconds. Nevertheless, he was quick to admit that those clashes with Dunfermline brought some happy memories but some not so happy ones as well. Saturday, 15th November, 1986 still haunts him! Dunfermline was the opposition--East End Park the venue. Queens led 2-1 late in the game when he suffered a serious knee injury in a tackle and little did he realise then that it would be his last appearance in a Queen of the South shirt.

He recalls, "I knew it was a bad one as the pain was terrible. It was diagnosed as a ruptured cruciate ligament and I was out for the rest of the season. Ten months later there was little improvement although the then manager, Davy Wilson, had pushed hard to get me an operation. And then came the news every footballer dreads--the surgeon informed me that I shouldn't play football again! I was only 24 at the time and I felt my whole world was crumbling about me, but it was something I just had to live with".

Stewart's career was short but sweet and unfortunately cut short in its prime. Signed as a 19-year-old from local Junior side Glenafton Athletic in November 1982 he made 141 first team appearances, scored a total of 38 goals including 16 in that glory season when we won promotion. He served under four managers--Drew Busby, Nobby Clark, Mike Jackson and Davy Wilson but rates Busby the best of the bunch as he was so good at motivating the team.

Some of the best players he played alongside were local boys and added, "They formed the nucleus of the side at that time. There was Kevin Hetherington, George Cloy, Graeme Robertson, Billy Sim and of course the flamboyant Ted McMinn who signed about the same time as me. And on the periphery, Graeme Muir, Garry Telfer and Colin Colthart who now works for the BBC.

"Alan Davidson was our keeper and a right character was 'Barney'. So too were Jimmy Robertson, Billy Reid and Bobby Parker. However, best of all was Tommy Bryce and I'm still honoured to say that I shared the striking partnership with him".

Some of the illustrous names he came up against included Sandy Jardine, Ally McCoist, Mo Johnston and Brian McClair, to name but a few. Stewart recall, "Sandy was a real gentleman--someone you could look up to. I played against him when met Hearts in the Scottish Cup. We drew at Palmerston and it went to a replay at Tynecastle and he pratically 'talked me through' the whole game. I was only 20 at the time and he kept pointing out where I was going wrong. You don't come across many opponents like that!

"Three time I had the privilege of being on the same park as 'Super Ally'. Twice when we played Rangers in the League Cup and again when I was selected for an Amateur League Select to meet Sunderland.

"When we clashed with Celtic in the Skol Cup I got the chance to see both Mo Johnston and Brian McClair at close quarters. Mo was yet another character and his dress sense was really 'way out' but he could certainly score goals. And, talking about goals, one strike of Brian McClair's at Palmerston from all of 35 yards was the best goal I've ever seen".

Stewart still resides in Dumfries with his wife Caroline and children, Neil and Hannah, but confesses he doesn't get along to Palmerston as much as he'd like to with family commitements and his love of golf taking up his weekends. Nevertheless, the Queens' score is always the first one he looks out for.

Tom Kerr 1st October 2007
The death was announced at the weekend of Tom Kerr who was groundsman at Palmerston during the 1980s. He took a great pride in the park and worked hard to keep it clean and tidy and the surface was always good to play on.

Said Kevin McCormick, who took over from him after he retired. "He was good to work with, we got on well together and he taught me a lot". Tom kept himself involved with the club, however, by supervising the car parking behind the Main Stand and was active right up to the end of last season. Our condolencies go out to his wife and all his family.

'Hand of God' 1st October 2007
At Palmerston for the Stirling match was none other than our former skipper and manager, George Rowe, but the infamous 'Hand of God' is now used to write articles for the sports pages of the 'Sun' newspaper. Said George, "I'm made welcome at most grounds but still get pelters when I'm sent to Stranraer. They've obviously never forgotten that 'Hand of God' goal even though it's over 10 years ago now".

Match reaction 29th September 2007
Despite coming back from a goal down to lead 2-1 a killer strike from John Paul McBride two minutes from time denied Queens a much needed victory. We now slip to 7th spot in the table with Dunfermline and Livvie leap frogging us and the looks on the faces of the Queens fans as they trooped out of the stadium told the story. Gordon Chisholm wasn't at all happy at the end and sighed, "It was definitely another two points dropped, Stirling came here intent on playing a system and they made it difficult for us especially after they scored. You've got to play at tempo and pace to break that down and we didn't do that. We were far too pedestrian. We played a lot better in the second half. Big Sean scored a good goal to put us back in it and then Stephen Dobbie who had come on, worked hard, looked sharp and was rewarded with a goal himself. That should have won the game for us but we allowed ourselves to be pushed back in the last five minutes. It's so silly as it's a bad habit and something we've got to change."

Allan Moore was the happier manager of the two and admitted, "It was a better point for us than it was for Queen of the South, we came to Palmerston with a game plan to frustrate and stop them getting shots on target. It worked well in the first half but after they went 2-1 up I had to change it a bit and John Paul popped up to score a tremendous equaliser. It's another draw but I'll take it."
