Lyle re-signs 19th June 2002
Derek Lyle re-signed for Partick Thistle this afternoon ending speculation, put about by his agent, regarding a move down south following the breakdown of negotiations aimed at bringing him back to Palmerston following a successful loan spell in the second half of the season. The strikers agent earlier this month turned down an offer of a move to Palmerston for the speedy front man so let's hope that Derek gets more than a run in the reserves and a seat on the bench at Firhill in the SPL, at least the fans in Dumfries appreciate the skills that the young striker amply demonstrated in his short spell in the royal blue of the Doonhamers. Good luck Derek.

Congratulations 18th June 2002
Major celebrations down Gretna way can be expected this evening as the townships side finally were admitted to the Scottish League at the third time of asking. It's been long overdue but finally the only Scottish team playing in England have come home.

For Queens this means that there may well be some really local 'local derby' matches for a change. Instead of a round trip of around 150 miles we may see in the future trips of just 45 miles.

Congratulations to everyone at Raydale Park and in particular to Rowan Alexander, Derek Frye and the numerous other former Queens players who have all helped to make the transfer possible. It's also quite fitting that they will host Morton on the opening day of the season, the side where Rowan Alexander had some of his greatest moments.

New Signing 5th June 2002
Former Hibs, Partick and Clydebank midfielder Eric Paton has agreed terms with Queens and yesterday signed a one-year contract at Palmerston. The twenty-three year old right sided midfielder ended the season as joint top scorer at the Bankies and had been linked with a number of sides during the season just past. He has featured against Queens no fewer than fifteen times for Stenhousemuir (loan), Partick and the Bankies scoring twice, once in March 2001 in Queens 2-1 victory and then again in November 2001, scoring one of the three goals that saw us off without reply.
'Transfer' Window 4th June 2002
Much has been written about the possible effects of the so called 'transfer window' system that has been adopted by FIFA, UEFA and all affiliated associations, the way that we see it is as follows;

Firstly the term 'transfer window' can be misleading, we prefer the term 'registration window' as it better describes the process.

If you then understand that a player cannot play in any senior game without first being registered then the other questions regarding 'loan' players or trialists really become self-explanatory. To summarise the main points:

1. Players can only be registered up until and including the 31st August 2002, the next time that a player can be registered is between the 1st and 31st January 2003.

2. Loan players are possible but they must have been registered during the two registration windows.

3. Trialists are possible but only during the registration windows.

An additional rule is also being introduced which relates to youth development, the new rule states that a club is not allowed to have any more than 22 players registered that are over the age of 21 years. There is however no limit on the number of under 21 year olds that can be registered.

Shirt Draw Winner 30th May 2002
A record was set at Palmerston tonight as the Shirt Draw attracted no fewer than 142 entries, by far the largest number of entries and an increase of 87% over the previous highest figure of 80 seen in season 1998/99. The draw was made by Lisa Scott, wife of first team coach Ian Scott, and Lisa drew the name of Queens director David Rae out of the hat first, David though was kind enough to donate the prize to Queens and for the second time the first prize was offered for auction amongst the entrants present with Positive Response Communications winning with a bid of £2,400, taking the night's earnings from the draw to £45,000.

Speaking for Positive Response Communications, Mrs Pat Hobson said, "It's just brilliant, my family has had a long connection with Queen of the South, my Aunt Vi has assisted Doreen in the kitchen for twenty years, also my grandfather Robert Crawford was a staunch Queens fan and followed then for years home and away and my brother carried on the tradition and he now follows Queens to every game."
