SNIPPETS29th September 1999
Ex-Queens player Jamie McAllister is featured over two pages in today's Daily Record. Jamie is quoted as saying that despite the Dons worst ever start to a season he still feels that he made the right move and that lining up at places like Ibrox in front of 52000 fans beats lining up at places like Gayfield in front of only a few hundred.

On Monday night hosts Scotland defeated Belgium by three goals to nil in the first match of the Under 17's three nations tournament being played at Palmerston this week.
YOUTH CUP GAME ARRANGED25th September 1999

OTHER "QUEENS" IN ACTION25th September 1999
If you're looking for something to do this Sunday why not take your pick of any one of three Queens games going on across the town. The under fifteen's play at the Crichton, the Under 14's are at the Keswick Centre and the Girls Under 18's are playing at the Technical College. All of these matches will kick off at 2.00pm on Sunday afternoon.
WEEKEND PREVIEW24th September 1999
Could it be a six-pointer this soon in the season, well Queens really do need to win to stay in touch with the mid-table pack. Stirling themselves are a mere two points in front of us and a win for them is also essential. The scene should therefore be set for an entertaining battle and hopefully Queens can record a similar result to the last two meetings between the teams, away in January with a 3-1 win and at home in March with a 3-0 victory.

Just in case any fans have forgotten here's how all three goals looked,

[Deggsie scores] [Cleeland scores] [Adams scores]

Team news from Palmerston today is basically a case of as you were, with the notable exception of the inclusion of Denis Boyle who returns from a victorious Northern Irish Under 18's trip to Sweden when the team qualified for the finals of the UEFA Under 18's Championship. All other players, excluding David Mathieson, are fit and free from suspension.

Looking at the history of meetings between the two clubs the Bino's have the upper hand having won 39, 19 have been drawn and Queens have emerged victorious on no fewer than 28 occasions.
UNDER 17's TOURNAMENT24th September 1999
Remember that it's this week coming that Palmerston hosts a three nations tournament.

The teams competing will be representing the cream of the Under 17 footballing talent from Scotland, Belgium and Denmark. The triangular tournament kicks off on Monday 27th September at 7.30pm with Scotland versus Belgium at. On Wednesday the 29th Belgium will take on Denmark with a 3.00pm kick off and the tournament will conclude with Scotland versus Denmark on Friday 1st October kick off 7.30pm.

Admission to all of the matches is by cash at the turnstile with Adults paying £4.00 and Under 16's just £1.00. So why not come along and support the best of the youth in Scotland and pick out the stars of the future.
WHAT THE PAPERS SAY20th September 1999
The tabloid press has been inundated with stories or quotes from present and ex-Doonhamers this past few days.

First up on Saturday in the Sun was co-boss George Rowe giving his, "Eleven from heaven", his eleven read as follows. In goal is ex-Bankies team-mate Jim Gallacher, the back four was David Lilley, ex-Bankie Brian Smith, Dougie "Whoosh" Mills, another ex-Bankie Jim Rodger. In midfield Deggsie, John Davies from Clydebank, Andy McFarlane and Bankie Henry Caffrey. Up front George goes for, not surprisingly, co-boss Ken Eadie with finally Owen Coyle another ex-team-mate at Clydebank.

In today's Football pull-outs you can find Des McKeown giving us his A-Z of football related info. Naturally Des's time at Palmerston provides a lot of his stories, amongst them being JT's ability to make your ears bleed just by his non-stop chatter, his appreciation of our tea ladies Doreen and Vi, his nightmare match versus Stenhousemuir a couple of seasons ago when he felt responsible for almost everything that went wrong, a training ground tiff between Stevie Mallan and Andy McFarlane and finally his favourite match, shared by a number of Queens fans, beating Morton 2-0 to get to the final of the Challenge Cup.

Then we have Naz telling the Sun and Record that he's glad to be back playing football in Scotland and still has hopes of making it into the big time like Deggsie and Jamie McAllister.

Tam Bryce tells the Sun that promotion is very much on the minds of Arbroath, and quite rightly so.

John McLaren, now at Glenafton tells the Sun that despite their impressive 3-1 win at Cumnock, he wont be happy to measure Glens until after they've face Kilwinning.
WEEKEND ROUND-UP17th September 1999
The Under 18's lost a hard fought match versus Airdrie earlier in the week by three goals to one, McGuffie scoring a penalty for the young Queens side.

They have a chance to redeem themselves with another league match, this time versus Morton on Tuesday night at Palmerston. Kick off is 7:45pm.

Scotland female Under 18's, Captained by our own Donna Clachrie, defeated Bosnia and Lithuania then drew with the Welsh girls to earn a place in the finals of the competition in Israel in October.

Queen's reserves will face Livingston away in the Reserve League Cup on Monday evening.

Sunday sees two Queens teams in action in Dumfries, the Under 15's face Motherwell at the Chricton and the Under 14's face Dundee United at the Keswick Centre, both matches kicking off at 2:00pm.

The message board has gone deadly quiet, everybody happy then?
DERBY DAY16th September 1999
Both Stranraer and Queens will meet this Saturday at Stair Park with the hope that they can give their season a kick start. Both are undoubtedly underperforming with freshly relegated Stranraer yet to win a game and Queens with only one victory to their credit so far.

The good news for Doonhamers fans is that Club Captain Steven Leslie will start the match after recovering fully from his recent groin injury and that all of the remaining squad members are fully fit and free of suspensions, excluding of course long term casualty David Mathieson.

With ex-Queens boss Billy McLaren at the Stair Park helm the game is sure to be close encounter, although Billy's personal knowledge of the Queens side will be restricted to only a few of the players who take the field on Saturday. The Doonhamers are likely to start with the same formation in defence and midfield as against Stenhousemuir last Saturday although there may be some changes up front.

So the stats for this weekend are that Queens have won 36 of the competitive matches between the clubs, drawn 21 and lost 24. A repeat of any of the first three results between the two clubs would be welcome, Queens winning 8-0, 11-1 and 7-0!
U18's FACE A GALA DAY16th September 1999
The draw for the next round of the SFA Youth Cup has been made and following on from their fine 2-0 win at Annan, Queens under 18 team will face Gala at Palmerston. There is no date fixed yet, however it must be played before the 10th October.
TRAVEL CLUB NEWS11th September 1999
The Doonhamers Travel Club are asking that due to demand, could anyone wishing to travel to away games please book their seat before 8.00pm on the Wednesday prior to the match.

Any member of the committee, Jim on 01387 270102 or Pamela on 01387 264220 will take your booking, or you can contact the committee on a Wednesday evening at the Palmerston Lounge Bars.

If seats are not booked then obviously they cannot be guaranteed.
WEEKEND ROUND-UP10th September 1999
Newly promoted Stenhousemuir visit Palmerston this weekend in the hope of continuing their good start to the season which sees them sitting in joint second place in the table four points ahead of Queens.

Their manager, the evergreen Graeme Armstrong will have a well organised set of players as he leads them out onto the park tomorrow and Queens co-boss George Rowe already knows what to expect from set pieces. Look out also for a rejuvenated ex-Queens player Willie Watters who has already notched up two goals this season and will undoubtedly savour the opportunity to score at Palmerston where he did not have the happiest of times as a player in the blue jersey.

Team news from Palmerston today is encouraging with Captain Steven Leslie passing a fitness test at training last night and looking to make the squad for the match at least. Youngster David Uriarte gets a long overdue first team call up after an impressive outing at Annan in the SFA Youth Cup where he scored both goals in Queens 2-0 victory, the second being a beautifully executed chip over the advancing keeper as the Annan defence looked on bewildered.

Sandy Hodge, the ex-Motherwell striker cannot play as a trialist again although the club would like to retain his services he is keen to maintain the full time status that he enjoyed whilst with the Fir Park outfit. He will not feature this weekend.

Queens all time record versus the Warriors is encouraging with 49 wins, 15 draws and 36 defeats although they have turned into a bit of a bogey team in recent years and in the last decade we have won only 11, drawn 6 and lost 14.
IRISH EYES ARE SMILING10th September 1999
Queen's youngster Denis Boyle is off for a week with the Northern Irish Under 18's squad to Sweden. The Irish youngsters will face three tough ties in their quest for Qualification for the European Championship with games against Sweden, this Saturday, Luxembourg midweek and Estonia next Saturday, unlike other age groups all of the games are played in the one country.

This, off course, means that Boiler will be missing from both this weeks clash at Palmerston versus Stenhousemuir and next Saturday's first local Derby of the Season away at Stranraer.
FORMER DOONHAMER BLUES7th September 1999
Former Palmerston favourite Jim Thomson is not having the best of starts to his life up on the North East coast. Following his sending off a week past last Saturday, he has been dealt an additional five match ban by the League. It is surprising as JT was never a dirty player, looks like he's just been a bit unlucky over the past twelve months.

Still at least he had the pleasure of watching two of his old teams on Saturday past.

On the same day you may have noticed that another former Doonhamer took an early bath. Graeme Love was playing for his new team East Fife.
UNDER 18's VICTORIOUS5th September 1999
The Under 18 team came through a tough Youth Cup match against Annan Athletic today at Galabank with hard fought but deserved two goals to nil victory.

Both goals came in the second half from the impressive David Uriarte, his first following a corner from the right which was initially saved by the Annan keeper but clinically finished by Uriarte, the second was a beautifully executed lob over the keeper as Uriarte nipped in as the Annan defenders pushed out and sensed the keeper off his line.

The Queen's line up today was Muirhead, Craig, McCaig, Kerr, McGuffie, Wallace, Boyle, Uriarte, Patterson, Brown and Milligan.

WEEKEND PREVIEW1st September 1999
This weekend sees the first of two home league matches within the space of seven days with the visit of Clyde. This could turn out to be a crucial period for the team after what can only be described as an indifferent start to the season with the managers being unable to select the same team two weeks running.

Similar problems exist for this match however with Alan Kerr still likely to be missing and Captain Steven Leslie facing a very late fitness test. The good news is that George Rowe has now fully recovered and should be available for selection.

It's a big day for former Clyde stars Stevie Mallan, who always seems to get on the scoresheet against his old mates and for youngster Paul Stewart who was allowed to leave Broadwood in the summer. Both will be hoping to make their presence felt in what is sure to be a closely fought match.
