| DEADLINE DEAL | 30th March 2001 |
| Queen's just managed to beat the transfer deadline tonight and secure the services of 20 year old Glaswegian goalkeeper Jamie Campbell from Clydebank. The commanding stopper had signed for the Bankies on 6th March and played six times, including two appearances against us. He was the Bankies Man of the Match when they played against Queens at Palmerston earlier this month, saving a Warren Hawke penalty (right) and has signed with Queens for two years. |

| Jamie was at Oldham Athletic as a youth and this season graduated to the first team squad, his chances were limited although the Latics fans were of the opinion that the commanding keeper would go far in the game, Jamie, however saw his future elsewhere and in the search for first team football left the Latics by mutual consent earlier this month, joining Clydebank. He must have been impressed with the set up at Palmerston as he was keen to join the Dumfries side. He will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's match versus Berwick pending all necessary clearances. |

| Steve Walklate has signed and will feature in the squad for this weekend, Jon Sunderland has served his one match suspension and again makes the squad, Paddy Atkinson is expected to be fit, although all depends on his reaction to training on Thursday evening, David Mathieson will also be back in the squad but missing will be Des McKeown through work commitments. |

John O'Neill, with another scoring performance takes the Internet Man of the Match award for the Sunday match at Berwick, close behind was fellow goalscorer Peter Weatherson with goalmaker Alan Hogg in third place.

| John Connolly has revealed the name of the player who featured as a trialist on Sunday and who he is hopeful of signing this evening, he is 21 year old midfielder/defender Steve Walklate. Durham born Steve has been with Darlington in the English third division this season after joining them from Middlesborough in February 2000, he has made nine first team appearances for the North East side and played alongside Mark Angel earlier in the season. At five foot eleven inches and twelve stone JC feels that he will be a great asset to the side as he can happily play in either defence or midfield. |

| Manager John Connolly is hopeful of making another signing this week following the appearance of a 'trialist' on Sunday at Berwick, details of the defender/midfielder who featured should hopefully be available in the next day or so. |

It's a case of pulling a squad together from the remains of the first team squad for this weekend's clash with Berwick on Sunday. Jon Sunderland misses out due to suspension, David Mathieson is away on a works training course with a fit-again Colin Scott regaining his first team place, Paddy Atkinson is rated as doubtful and is still suffering with his groin strain, Stuart King has not fully recovered from the mystery virus that saw him spend Tuesday evening in a bedroom at a Perth hotel whilst his team-mates went on to Arbroath and finally Stephen Pickering is doubtful after receiving hospital treatment following a head knock at Gayfield.
John Connolly is however hopeful of strengthening the squad and has a couple of players in that he is presently pursuing with the intention of securing their services prior to transfer deadline day. The squad is however unlikely to be increased before Sunday's 2.00pm kick-off at Shielfield, it is sure to be a tough match as Berwick are finally finding their form and are presently just a point behind us with two games in hand. They will be looking for revenge after suffering two defeats against us this season with a 4-0 win at Shielfield back in September followed by a 2-1 win at Palmerston in November. Queens will be looking to bounce back after the disappointment of the Forfar and Arbroath matches. |

The two goalscorers on Tuesday evening received the top ratings in the voting for the Man of the Match, Mark Angel scored a reasonable 5.91 whilst his replacement Alan Hogg topped the voting with an excellent 6.02 considering the team performance as a whole. Third place went to Warren Hawke with everyone else, not surprisingly, way down on their season average.

Peter Weatherson, Jon Sunderland and David Mathieson were the top three in the voting for this week's Man of the Match award, Peter taking the accolade for the eleventh time. Almost everyone drops back in the Player of the Season league table with only Jon Sunderland putting in a performance above his average.

Paddy Atkinson suffered a groin strain early on in the match and is doubtful for Tuesday at Arbroath, Stuart King was also still feeling the effects of his ankle knock and was replaced as a precaution.
There was a triple presentation after the match with Andy Aitken, Des McKeown and David Mathieson all receiving 'long service awards'. presenting the awards were Doreen and Vi the Palmerston Tea ladies. Peter Weatherson was named Man of the Match by the members of the Director's Club, the presentation was made by Davie Carroll of Galovidian Foods. |

Queens face Forfar at home on Saturday in what will be Andy Aitken's 150th match for the club. The big question will be can we make it six in a row? well Forfar are on a run themselves at the moment having won the last two matches and have already beaten us this season at Palmerston, however that was back in September and things have changed a lot since then.
Queens will largely be unchanged although Stuart King is hopeful of making the squad, one player who will not feature again is Steven Skinner, his short term contract has come to an end and he has moved on. A couple of points of clarification, the Forfar match that was scheduled for the 27th March but has been re-arranged for tomorrow means that that date is now free, however it will not see the Forfar versus Queens return game that has been postponed tomorrow. Jon Sunderland has received a one match ban that will see him miss out on the Berwick Rangers away match next Sunday. |
| AWAY, NO HOME, NO AWAY AGAIN! | 16th March 2001 |

Today was a day of to and froing thanks to the people of the North East, first Arbroath contacted the club and requested that due to 'local pressure' regarding the foot and mouth epedemic they would like the game on Tuesday to take place at Palmerston, Queen's and the SFL understandingly agreed to the request and all travel arrangements were cancelled and the players informed, then two hours after it was settled the Red Lichties are back on the phone to tell the club that the 'local pressure' has gone away and they now want the game to go ahead as planned at Gayfield. So Queens again agree and the all travel arrangements are re-made and the players told to re-book holidays from work etc.
Administratively a nightmare but without any guidance being given by the authorities it is never going to be easy to make the right decisions. |

| This Saturday's match versus Forfar Athletic will now be held at Palmerston with the Station Park ground bordering farmland the Forfar officials requested the transfer of the fixture to Dumfries. The Scottish League have ratified the decision and Queen's remaining home fixture versus Forfar will take place at Station Park. |

| On-loan winger Stuart King is hopeful of regaining full fitness in time for Saturday's match at Palmerston against Forfar Athletic, the Preston North End star has gradually been working back to fitness over the past few days and feels that he will be ready in time for Saturday. |

Andy Aitken takes the honours with his best performance of the season on Tuesday evening scoring a massive 8.14 average, the big defender was closely followed by Jon O'Neill who average 8.07 whilst third place was taken by Warren Hawke with another sterling performance up-front.

A surprise change to the side last night was the resting of Peter Weatherson, the young striker given a place on the bench by John Connolly as the boss felt that all the hype surrounding Peter had affected his recent performances.
An interested spectator at last night's match was Killie boss Bobby Williamson although he did not give anything away as to who he may have been looking at. A rare occasion of the pitch was the undoubted fact that the travelling support far outnumbered the home support, the team recognised the super support that they received, particularly in the second half and acknowledged the fans as they left the pitch victorious. If you have a look at the league table you will see that only Partick have a better away record than Queens and they have played three more away games than we have. The squad for Saturday's trip to Forfar remains unchanged with King and Scott still likely to be sidelined and no word yet on Jon Sunderland's suspension. Finally the Stranraer re-arranged date has been conformed as 3rd April at Stair Park. |

For the second game in a row ex-Bournemouth star Jon O'Neill has secured the Internet Fan Club Man of the Match award with another goalscoring performance, his tally now being three from seven, not including one in the abandoned Arbroath game. In second place was David Mathieson who made a number of crucial stops on Saturday with third shared between Andy Aitken and our 'new' left back Denis Boyle.

Thoughts are already on Tuesday evenings match at Cappielow against Saturdays defeated opponents Clydebank. The Bankies will be keen to exact revenge for what was a very narrow victory and Queens will again have to perform with a dogged determination to continue their present run of results.
Players unavailable or injured are Des McKeown, in the Arctic, Phil Nixon, at work and Stuart King, not quite ready to feature following his injury. Jon Sunderland is now due for a few games on the sidelines but will be available for the next two or three games until the disciplinary committee meet. |

Today's match sponsor was onlineweather.com , who are part of the ATLAS holdings group of companies run by local businessman Tom Hogan, it's the fourth game this season that one of the ATLAS group of companies has sponsored and as a mark of appreciation Graham Connell, on behalf of Queen of the South presented Mr Hogan with a certificate of appreciation following the match.
Also present at today's match was Lorraine Patterson from Annan and her sister Angela, Lorraine was the winner of the recent Prince of Palmerston competition and had a terrific day rounded off by the winner of the competition, Phil Nixon presenting her with a bouquet of flowers. Finally young Stuart King was present at the match today although not fit to play, he did however bring along his girlfriend and her parents to sample the unique Palmerston atmosphere. |
