| MAN OF THE MATCH | 30th April 2001 |

A superb volley by Peter Weatherson on Saturday was enough to see him capture his thirteenth Man of the Match award of the season. Close behind Peter and putting in his best performance of the season was Stephen Pickering whilst third place was taken by consitent performer Andy Aitken.
Peter's win makes it almost certain now that he will take the Internet Fan Club Player of the Season award, however the competition runs until the last kick of the ball this Saturday afternoon. The following players have all been advised that they will not be offered contracts for season 2001/2002:
Ronnie McQuilter Dean Muir Martin Hughes Denis Boyle The services of both Colin Scott and Jamie Campbell have been secured for next season and they will form the first team goalkeeping squad, it is therefore unlikely that David Mathieson will continue as a Queen of the South player. |
| SIGNIFICANT CHANGES | 27th April 2001 |

Expect to see some significant changes to the side in the next three matches as John Connolly takes the opportunity to run the rule over the players that have so far been on the fringe of things at the club.
Expect too some changes in the defensive line-up as JC strives to find a solution to our obvious frailties and makes changes to tighten that area up. There may also be room in midfield for a fresh face given the chance to impress. There are no injury or suspension worries and it is really a case in the last three games of formulating the right blend for next season and weeding out the underperformers. The bulk of the side has already been signed up for next season with only one or two remaining to put pen to paper, some of those that are leaving are aware of the situation. A Queen's victory or even a draw will send the Forthbank side to the third division following what can only be described as a disastrous season by Ray Stewart and his side after many people tipped them to be challenging for promotion at this time. In the league, action elsewhere could see Arbroath promoted if they can beat Berwick Rangers at Gayfield, and at the other end of the table Queen's Park can send opponents Forfar down if they beat them and Stirling Albion if the Spiders at least draw with the Loons even if the Binos defeat the Doonhamers. It could all be over by tomorrow evening, or then again it could all go to the last day of the season next Saturday. |

A dissapointing performance on Saturday saw Jamie Campbell take his second Man of the Match award as the only player to break an average score of five in the voting. John O'Neill scraped second place and Warren Hawke third with scores that would normally secure a wooden spoon.
Talking of wooden spoons, big Ronnie McQuilter takes the award this week whilst also taking the sponsors man of the match! No Player of the Season league table update this week, check back after next week's game. |

Peter Weatherson and Graham Connell both face a Saturday on the sidelines as they each serve out one match bans for accumulating too many disciplinary points. All other members of the first team squad are available although John Connolly tells us today that there is likely to be at least one of the more promising youngsters in the squad on Saturday.
As for the rest of the season the boss is emphasising to the players that four wins is what he expects, although he recognises that they will all be tough games as all four opponents will be fighting to avoid the drop so Queens cannot expect an easy ride in any of the four matches. John was also frank about the present sides potential and says that we can expect to see possibly four or five new faces in the side come the start of next season. |

Membership of the Queen of the South Internet Fan Club has tonight crashed through the 1000 mark with David Crawford becoming the club's 1000th registered fan.
Doonhamer David is presently in Dumfries on a short break but normally resides in The Gambia where he is the proprietor of the Boboi Beach Lodge, see photograph below, just outside of Kartong, a far cry from Sandy Hills even on the Sunniest of days. ![[Boboi Beach Lodge]](boboi.jpg)

No doubt this week about the Man of the Match with new goalkeeper Jamie Campbell winning the vote by some distance with an average score of 6.97, second place went to match-winner Dean Muir who came on as a second half substitute added some width and scored the winning goal, third place went to the ever reliable Andy Aitken for yet another solid performance at the back.

Queen's historian and avid memorabilia collector Ian Black has always been known for his love of all things Queens, normally the items he collects he keeps in the Queens museum but his latest acquisition will be with him night and day for the rest of his life. The big man has had a 5 inch high club crest tattooed onto his right arm, see photo below. He tells us he also has another Queen's tattoo but wouldn't let us take a snap of it!.

| EARLY TEAM NEWS | 11th April 2001 |

John Connolly will have a full squad to pick from on Saturday as all players are presently fit, with the exception of on-loan Stuart King, and all are free from suspension as both Peter Weatherson and Graham Connell will not serve their respective suspensions until after Saturday's game.
The date for the Forfar match has now been set as Tuesday 1st May 2001 with the venue presently as Station Park, depending on the situation regarding the Foot and Mouth epidemic it may be that a neutral venue is used, a decision on this will be made nearer the time. |

After a spending most of the season sitting down, big Phil Nixon got off the bench on Saturday and demonstrated to anyone who had any doubts that he has the makings of a class player with a Man of the Match winning performance in what was thought by many to be Queen's best performance of the season. Trailing slightly behind Phil was two goal hero John O'Neill and one place further back was another who has really made a late season charge Jon Sunderland.

| Good to hear Chick Young put Jim Traynor right on BBC Radio Scotland today as the big Daily Record journalist tried to tell the nation that Celtic had the 'best' fans in the country, quite rightly Chick piped up that fans of teams like Queen of the South were every bit as 'good' as those that follow the Celts, Traynor replied with some nonsense about how Celtic fans were better because they expected their team to win and that fans of teams like Queen of the South didn't. Maybe we should have a vote on that!! |

John Connolly has only one player missing from what is otherwise a full strength squad available to him for the clash with champions elect Partick Thistle tomorrow, on-loan Preston North End winger Stuart King has suffered a reaction to the injury picked up a month ago and misses out for effectively the rest of the season. Warren Hawke rejoins the squad after recovering from an ankle knock and all the midweek absentee's are available for selection.
John Connolly is keen to avoid another seasons whitewash following that inflicted by Stranraer in midweek, a win for Partick would also mean 4-0 to them this season, although by much closer margins in terms of scores and performances. JC's former team-mate John Lambie, however, will be doing Queens no favours as the Partick manager, who has just renewed his contract with the club today, will be keen to wrap up the Second Division title at the earliest opportunity and a win for his side coupled to anything less than a win for Arbroath at home to Stirling would mean cracking open the champagne in Maryhill! |

| Some early team news tonight ahead of Saturday's trip to Firhill, Stuart King is out for two to three weeks after having a reaction to his ligament injury and Warren Hawke should be back in the squad, his ankle has responded well to treatment. With both Graeme Connell and Peter Weatherson picking up yellow cards on Tuesday evening a ban for both is imminent, however both are available this weekend. |

| Still missing from tonight's squad to take on Stranraer is Warren Hawke who also missed out on Saturday after injuring his ankle late last week. Des McKeown returns to the squad and gets a place on the bench, whilst Martin Hughes goes straight into the heart of midfield as John O'Neill takes up a striking role. |

Jon Sunderland has steadily improved his performances over the season and is now producing some of the best football we have seen from him at Palmerston, this is borne out by him clinching, for the first time on his own, the Man of the Match award from Saturday's game versus Berwick Rangers. Second place went to Peter Weatherson who again diplayed his all-round ability whilst the third placed man in the voting was new keeper Jamie Campbell.
