The scoreline does not tell the whole story of this match, the first half saw Queens new strike partnership of Nesovic and Mallan create a number of chances due to some good penetration down the left flank from Mark Weir, unfortunately Stevie didn't have his shooting boots on today and contrived to miss a couple of seemingly straightforward chances, the worst of which was from a cracking Mark Weir cross which somehow seemed to go straight through Stevies legs as he raced in on goal. The closest thing to a first half goal was when trialist Gary Russell stepped up for a free kick from 25 yards, the ball was tapped across to him and he let fly with a tremendously powerful shot which the goalkeeper would never have reached but which crashed off the crossbar and bounced away to safety, this lad can kick a ball.

A number of chances fell to Queens in a half that they largely dominated, certainly after the first ten or so minutes. The Alloa players went about the match in the manner expected, all obviously keen to impress new boss Terry Christie and all making purposeful contributions.

Queens management duo of the playing George Rowe and the injured Ken Eadie decided to freshen things up in the sixtysecond minute when they replaced Charlie Adams with Gareth Armstrong who was then asked to play as an attacking midfielder on the right side, a further modification was made with the introduction of Brian Caldwell shortly after Armstrong and he replaced the tiring Mark Weir who again had an impressive strong running game.

Controversy followed soon after when Russell and ex-Doonhamer Ramsey challenged for the ball, as Ramsey got up he kicked the innocent Russell as he lay on the turf, the referee obviously did not see the full incident, only booking Ramsey initially but the stand side linesman had a clear view and insisted that Ramsey leave the pitch.

The game was played out with Queens almost snatching it with the last kick of the ball but it ran just past the upright to the groans of the crowd.

With East Fife winning the gap has now increased to three points, but there are a few teams coming within range and the next few weeks will prove crucial.
