For the third time in the last six matches Queen's found the net on three occasions, this time there was no reply from the opponents and thus the team equaled their largest winning victory of the season 3-0.

In truth though whilst the margin of victory was comprehensive the intact home goal owes enormously to a fine display of top class goalkeeping from David Mathieson, on at least four occasions he managed to thwart the Arbroath attack with finger tip and reflex saves that would grace any Premier League match. The solidity of the defence supplemented by the industrious heart of the midfield with the creative wing play of Weir and particularly Townsley effectively won the match for the doonhamers.

The team started in the same formation as that that was so successful last week except for the inclusion of left winger Mark Weir who was impressive enough in the midweek friendly with Threave when he scored two of the goals in the 4-2 victory, to warrant a place in the starting line up. The game began in a similar fashion also with Arbroath making the best of some slack play in the Queen's midfield. It took some time before settled into their rhythm and to be honest the arrival of half time was quite welcome.

The second half began with Townsley in more determined mood and after only four minutes he broke clear on the right, just beating the offside trap, took the ball to the bye line and pulled back a fantastic ball for the onrushing Steven Leslie to crash into the back of the net for his first goal of the season and only his fourth in his 58 appearances for Queens. Major credit though went to the run and cut back from Deggsie.

Arbroath were still posing a breakaway threat at this time and Queens never really dominated as they had done the week previous at Firhill, but that man Mathieson was always on hand to yet again press his claim for his Scotland U21 jersey.

Ten minutes after the first goal Queens were again back in the Arbroath box through the wing play of Townsley, this time the ball fell to Townsley just on the edge of the box and his shot took a deflection giving the keeper no chance and nestling into the bottom left corner of the net.

The final goal again came from big Deggsie in the 78th minute, again a kindly deflection helped his shot find the back of the net but they all count. That was about the end of Townsley's afternoon as he was substituted two minutes later and received a standing ovation from the crowd for another magic twenty minutes.

Other results went our way today as well with both East Fife, Stirling Albion and Partick all losing leaving us only two points behind Arbroath, three behind East Fife and six behind both Stirling and Partick.
