Queens provided the perfect follow up to last weeks first away win of the season tonight by rattling three past Stirling Albion with only one being conceded. This gives Queens their second away victory of the season at a ground where they have never previously recorded a victory. More importantly it now puts us a mere one point behind East Fife in the table having played the same number of matches but with the added advantage of a grossly superior goal difference.

It was another battling performance from a young Queens side which saw consolidation of the defensive formation of last weekend with a similar midfield but with Charlie Adams starting the match up front in place of Gareth Armstrong who took a seat on the bench. Joining Gareth on the bench were Marc Cleeland returning from suspension and Brian Caldwell. Derek Townsley did not make it back into the team following his suspension period.

The first goal came in the twentieth minute when a thirty yard Alex Nesovic effort took a kindly deflection and spun in just inside the post, two weeks ago that would have spun just outside the post. It was just reward for the determined approach shown by the squad and reflected the pressure being applied by the doonhamers. The second half was played out with the game concentrated in a midfield battle.

A double substitution of Armstrong and Caldwell for Weir and Nesovic paid dividends with the pace of both players exposing the weaknesses in the Stirling back line. In the 77th minute good work from Caldwell down the flank resulting in a neat cross gave Armstrong his chance to record his first goal for Queens with a well placed header. Just four minutes later Caldwell again emphasised his claim for a regular place with a clinical finish from ten yards out. This killed the game although Stirling managed a late consolation to make the score slightly more respectable.

This Saturdays match versus Alloa will have an added edge to it as both teams attempt to impress after managerial changes, Alloa having appointed Terry Christie to the hotseat vacated by fellow teacher Tom Hendrie a few weeks ago.
