It has to be said that this was not the prettiest game of football seen at Palmerston this season, however it also has to be said that the two teams with the worst disciplinary record in the league served up a very fair but battling match in which both sides exhibited a will to win but Queen's the stronger. As it turns out results elsewhere were favourable with most of the other teams that can go down losing ground on Queen's and making it a bit more comfortable for the last couple of games.

The first half of the match was goaless, Queen's dominated the early proceedings and should have made the most of a number of golden chances presented mainly to Mark Weir who again this week left his shooting boots at home giving Wylie in the Clyde goal no trouble in collecting his shots.

As the half wore on the Queen's midfield, without the ever industrious Steven Leslie were finding the going tough against an impressive and strong Clyde midfield, indeed it was a relief when the half time whistle blew so that Queens could regroup as for the last ten minutes of the half it had looked as though Clyde would open the scoring.

The second half started much more brightly for Queens and it seemed only a matter of time before a goal would come, the enigmatic Townsley having a bit of an on/off day conjured up a few bits of magic down the right but generally was marshalled well by the ever unpopular, at Palmerston at least, Darren Murray. A goal did come however and it was as a result of Stevie Mallan's good work in the box, when he was unceremoniously dumped to the ground as he bore down on goal. Stevie stepped up himself to take the penalty, hopefully not hearing the groans of the Glasgow Street end. No worries though as Stevie coolly placed it to the keepers right as Wylie dived to his left. See photo below

This seemed to rejuvenate Queens and for the next ten minutes or so they bombarded the visitors goal, one move in particular involving Townsley, Adams and Mallan just emphasised what they can do when they put their mind to it as the ball was one touched at pace between the three of them to split the Bully Wee defence.

In the sixty ninth minute youngster Mark Weir was replaced by even younger youngster Bryan Caldwell who had shown such skill last weekend in setting up George Rowe's equaliser. Bryan immediately injected a bit more life into the Queen's attack and within only a few minutes he had whipped the ball across the goal and as it pinged around the box, reminiscent of a pinball table, it found it's way across goal to where Stevie Mallan was waiting to stretch out his leg and slide the ball in at the post. That looked to be it then, however the hardworking Clyde team didn't want to give up and continued battling to be well rewarded with a late goal from a disputed corner with only five minutes to go, substitute Barratt outjumping a static Queen's defence and giving the team and fans a frantic last few minutes. The defence held firm and the victory was well deserved.

Whilst the whole team played with admirable commitment today, both Andy Aitken and Jamie McAllister showed a determination and maturity beyond their years, in particular Jamie McAllister played himself to a standstill and was taken off with five minutes to go as he suffered a number of crunching tackles as he roamed all over the park. He must surely be a candidate for the Under 21 squad along with Smiler very soon.
