Members of the Internet Fan Club can award players marks out of ten for their performance today. The player with the most points awarded in the two days following a match will be the IFC Man of the Match. All of the points will then be added to a running total for each player and the results published in the mom League Table.

Ian McCall made two changes to the side that drew with Livingston last week. Andy Barrowman returned on the right of midfield in place of John O'Neill and, more surprisingly, Steve Tosh was declared fit and preferred to Stevie Murray on the left side. The home side were without inspirational skipper Kevin James who failed a fitness test and also the suspended Allan McManus but Simon Mensing returned from suspension to fill in at the back.

It was Queens who made the much better start and Paton's searching free kick in 3 minutes appeared destined for O'Connor's head at the back post until Cuthbert's despairing flick sent the ball out for a corner. From the resulting corner Jamie Adams bulleted a header narrowly wide with Cuthbert beaten. Two minutes later we came even closer as Barrowman's pass released Dobbie who turned inside Lawrie and beat Cuthbert with his shot only for Mensing to head off the line. Queens continued to push and O'Connor headed a McQuilken cross off the back of a defender and wide for another corner.

The home side took 17 minutes to register a shot on goal and when it came, via Lauchlan's error, Hardie's drive went wide having hit Jason Scotland! On 25 minutes Peter McDonald was booked for a bad challenge on Eric Paton but minutes later Jim Thomson joined him in there for a challenge on Scotland. In 39 minutes disaster struck for Queens when Jim Thomson conceded a corner with the loose ball from a shot. When Sheerin's kick came in Jamie MacDonald appeared to get to the ball but fumbled it under pressure from Martin Hardie and there was Andy Lawrie to head the loose ball into the net. Before the game restarted Steve Tosh picked up a yellow card for something he said to the assistant referee.

The second half started in chaos as Jason Scotland took exception to a challenge from Adams and chased ten yards to kick Adams from the back. This sparked a 20 man melee during which time Stanic and Scally appeared to trade punches. Mr Winter though seemed to miss most of what happened and at the end booked Scally, Stanic, Scotland, Adams and McInnes. Lord alone knows what Adams, whose original challenge was judged legal remember, did to earn his card. Just the usual book both players who were near when it started I suppose. When it all calmed down on 55 minutes Steve Tosh was replaced by Murray.

St Johnstone doubled their advantage on 64 minutes when another fairly unnecessary corner was conceded. Sheerin played it in and Simon Mensing rose to head home from 6 yards. McCall's response was to send on John O'Neill for Andrew Barrowman but it did no good as on 69 minutes two goals became three. This time a ball through the middle was cleverly flicked on and Willie McLaren was sent clear to bury the ball behind MacDonald and into the net. That saw Graham Weir replace Stephen Dobbie who had been very quiet after the first ten minutes or so.

The fight appeared to have gone out of Queens now and Scotland was next to force a save low to his left from MacDonald. Derek Lilley replaced Peter McDonald on 73 minutes as St Johnstone obviously felt the game was won. Steven Anderson was next to close with a header from yet another Sheerin corner. With ten minutes remaining Felipe Morais replaced McLaren as Coyle looked to rest some of his players for next week. With just five minutes remaining Neil Scally came as close as anyone for us in the second half when his looping shot from 25 yards missed the top left corner narrowly and Coyle made his final switch with Andy Jackson replacing Paul Sheerin. John O'Neill managed to pick up a last minute booking for dissent before Martin Hardie got one too for a challenge on Scally.

The final ten minutes for Queens fans had been more an exercise in keeping up to date with events at Airdrie and Livingston than any real interest in the game in front of us (apart from when Jason Scotland came near the ball and could be booed of course!). It became clear fairly early that Airdrie had been held at home by Partick but news from Livingston took forever to come in and all the Queens fans had gone by the time news actually arrived that we were safe. Safe we are though and we can start the party next weekend despite this result, though it will be a massive game for Airdrie.
