Prior to the game starting one minutes silence was observed in respect for Queen's legend Billy Houliston who sadly passed away this week in Dumfries Infirmary following a short stay after a fall at his home.
A brave performance from a Queen's side more or less at full strength was not enough to take anything away from high flying Inverness. Queen's started brightly enough and made a number of chances in the first half most of which fell to Stevie Mallan but a combination of bad luck and poor finishing made sure that the Caley goal remained intact.
Back into the team this week came Jim Thomson but he found himself facing an early bath after a second bookable offence in the eighty fifth minute, which no one apart from the linesman knows what it was. As expected Derek Townsley also started the match and he was largely responsible for all of the chances that fell to the Queen's strike force due in part to his mazy runs to the bye line and effective cut backs. The two players making way for Townsley and Thomson being Nesovic and Leslie, Jamie McAllister being moved forward into midfield to allow Andy Aitken to move across to left back and Jim Thomson to take his more central defensive role.
The closest Queen's came to a goal was from a first half free kick when Jim Thomson managed to connect well and send a header crashing against the crossbar. It looked as if Queen's would hold out but Russell conceded a free kick in the seventy third minute just outside the box and the ball when struck took a cruel deflection of George Rowe to crash into the net.
There were a couple of chances for Queen's to level late on but again bad luck and poor finishing meant another defeat and a long journey home pointless.
Star man again today was David Mathieson who made some fine stops and is now back to his very best, also impressive was Jamie McAllister following his relatively poor showing in last week's match versus Forfar.
