The player with the most points awarded in the two days following a match will be the IFC Man of the Match. All of the points will then be added to a running total for each player and the results published in the mom League Table.

Gordon Chisholm made a couple of changes to his starting line up for today's clash with Linlithgow Rose. Consigned to the bench was John Stewart as Stephen Dobbie got the nod this week whilst Ryan McCann made his debut at right back with Eric Paton moving onto the bench. Out of the squad altogether went Robert Campbell who was cup tied and Stephen Grindlay re-took his place on the bench to the relief of Stevie Morrison.
Rose were an unknown quantity with no one brave enough to make any strong predictions pre-match. And as it turned out they produced an entertaining style of football that Queens did well to contain for the first twenty minutes or so. Indeed it was the visitors who produced the best move of the match so far when in 16 minutes Brian Carrigan combined well with Andrew Dick to allow Dick the space to send a shot goalward that Jamie MacDonald dealt comfortably with. This spurred Queens into action and a couple of minutes later the deadlock was broken as Jim Thomson played a ball forward that Sean O'Connor flicked on to Stephen Dobbie. In a move reminiscent of his goal versus Clyde last weekend Dobbie controlled the ball on his chest spun round and fired it into the net past Greig Logan. It didn't take too long for Queens to find a second as a deep Bob Harris corner to the back post found Jim Thomson who climbed above his marker to power a header down into the ground and past the keeper giving Logan little chance of making a save. Despite the two goal advantage Rose still posed a threat and it took two great tackles to clear danger as the West Lothian side strived to pull a goal back. The first tackle came from Bob Harris as he slid in to take the ball off the toe of Andrew Dick with just Jamie MacDonald to beat and then the second was from new boy Ryan McCann as got himself between two Rose players to slide the ball away on the edge of the six yard box. As half time approached Queens began to press forward again and from free kick on the right hand side Brian Gilmour did well to get into the box and square a ball across the face of the goal where the diving Bob Harris was unlucky to see his effort fly inches wide. Sean O'Connor provided a clinical finish to increase the score to three nil on forty minutes as he turned inside his marker before shooting past Logan.

The second half saw Linlithgow come out fighting and with their superb travelling support in full voice their team put in great effort to pull a goal back. Closest effort for Rose came from Brian Carrigan who crashed a free kick off the bar from 25 yards with just ten minutes of the half gone.

The second half saw Linlithgow come out fighting and with their superb Queens however were still the most dangerous of the two sides and twice in quick succession Stephen Dobbie was through with options either side of him but on both occasions he elected to shoot himself and couldn't find the target. Then great work between Gilmour and Dobbie down the left almost brought about the goal of the game but for a last ditch block by a Rose defender. Then at the other end it took a hooked goal line clearance from Neil Macfarlane to ensure that the visitors goal tally remained blank.

The second half saw Linlithgow come out fighting and with their superb Another neat move down the left brought the fourth goal for Queens. Stephen Dobbie combined well with Steve Tosh and the midfielder burst into the box, Tosh made a direct run on the goal and smashed a square ball against both Logan and McArthur to see it end up coming off Logan and ending up in the back of the net.

The second half saw Linlithgow come out fighting and with their superb In the last fifteen minutes Gordon Chisholm made three changes, Dobbie for Stewart, Macfarlane for O'Neill and Tosh for Paton.
In summary the match was entertaining one and Linlithgow played some good football. Their fans were a credit to the club and were very loud all afternoon. The draw for the next round has given us an away tie to the winner of the Morton v Gretna game that ended all square today. |
