MATCH SUMMARY
Queens began their first pre-season under Iain Scott by sending a strong looking line up to Kirkcudbright to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the home club. Young Graeme Wright was in goal. In front of him, a back four of Paul Hilland (T), Jim Thomson, Garry Wood, Chris Scott, a midfield of Willie Gibson, Steve Bowey, 16 year old Scott Robertson and Stephen Payne and a front pairing of Emilio Jaconelli and David McNiven. As for the home team, sorry, no team sheets means I frankly haven't a clue about their names.

It was a poor opening half hour with Queens always comfortably in control without really threatening too much although both McNIven and Jaconelli did strike the woodwork in that time. The opening goal arrived on the half hour mark. McNiven found himself with the ball at the right corner flag and threw in a deep looping cross which cleared the goalkeeper and left Scott Robertson to knock the ball into the empty net. Less than a minute later the lead was doubled as Stephen Payne powered through at least three challenges before burying a shot in the bottom left corner of the net from 18 yards. It took only a further four minutes for 2-0 to become 3-0 as the scoring burst continued. This time Payne's right sided cross found David McNiven free to head home in the six yard box. Just before the interval Scott's searching ball from his own half picked out McNiven running towards the box and again the striker successfully buried the ball into the bottom corner showing the eye for goal that made him the top scorer in the Conference last season.

The second half began with Queens having made no less than seven changes to the starting line up. Wright remained in goal and in front of him three of the back four also remained with Hilland, Thomson and Scott. They were joined by Tommy English at left back with Hilland moving in to centre half to accommodate him. The entire midfield was switched with Brian McLaughlin, David Bagan, Billy McDonald and Paul Burns coming in. Finally we saw two trialist strikers up front in Stephen Tarditi and Adam Smith.

On 51 minutes Jim Thomson added his name to the scoresheet, heading home a right sided corner kick. However again there was a long period of little threat for either side before Richard Maxwell replaced Chris Scott on 73 minutes. A minute later Jim Thomson was also withdrawn and three minutes after that his replacement, who's name I did not catch unfortunately, set up Brian McLaughlin to make it 6-0.

The home side took the opportunity to give a run out to a young goalkeeper after this. On 78 minutes Paul Burns forced an opening down the right side and his cross was spilled by the young goalkeeper. Tarditi managed to turn a shot goalward but his effort was blocked by the keeper only for Adam Smith to tuck the second rebound home.

On 88 minutes Graeme Wright finally had to make his first save of the night, diving to the right to hold a shot from the edge of the box. Two minutes later though David Bagan's chip from the edge of the box made the score 8-0. Inside injury time Paul Burns run into the box was halted by a foul challenge and Tommy English tucked the penalty home to complete the scoring.
