MATCH SUMMARY
Despite the pre-match briefings the side lined up tonight with Steve Bowey, who had passed a late fitness test, but without Derek Lyle who had developed an abscess on his gum, Colin Scott too was not back from injury as he failed to make the sixteen. Brian McColligan was also missing through suspension and will miss next Saturday's match as his second of the tow exclusions.

In place of Lyle was Emilio Jaconelli making a rare start and he was to be the lone striker in a side with a five man midfield featuring Burns, Paton, Lovell, Bowey and McLaughlin, whilst the defence was as per the last outing.

Queens started well and chased down Clyde at every opportunity, with just a few minutes on the clock Jim Thomson could have opened the scoring as he had a free header from a corner but could only send it over the bar. Clyde were happy to play on the break and almost caught out Queens on the quarter hour as the ball was lobbed over the defence for Alex Burns to run on to, the midfielder set up Ian Harty in the six yard box and with a free shot on goal available to Harty his effort was superbly pushed away as Richie Barnard pushed the ball over the bar from point blank range.

Queens continued to play the better football and to dominate the possession, hardly surprising with the five man midfield and with the influential Darren Sheridan missing for Clyde, however with only Jaconelli upfront there was little chance of Queens constructing a decent move in the final third of the park.

At the other end the deadlock was broken as a Clyde corner was headed toward the back post from John Potter on the penalty spot, Steve Bowey was on the post and looked to clear but could only push the ball out as far as Gary Bollan who lashed it home to open the scoring. 1-0 to the Bully Wee and you knew then that it was likely to stay that way!

Bowser attempts to clear but.....

....it only got as far as Bollan who lashed the ball home
The second half started with a few nervous moments as a cross box ball from the right saw Ian Harty in familiar mode as he crashed to the ground inside the box and argued for a penalty, both Jim Thomson and Brian Reid took exception with the result that Thomson and Harty were both booked for their altercation.

Halliwell tips over a Paton drive
Queens continued to press and a David Craig header from a corner was tipped over only for a Jim Thomson header to be easily collected by the nervous looking Halliwell.

Eventually a change was made with Willie Gibson replacing David Craig and Alex Williams for Brian McLaughlin, the formation changing to three at the back and two upfront in Williams and Jaconelli. However it made little difference with Queens creating very little and Clyde happy to soak up the pressure. In the final minute Iain Scott made his last substitution as he gave David McNiven sixty seconds to rescue a point. And finally Gary Wood picked up a needless booking with almost the last kick of the ball for not retreating properly at a free-kick.

All in all a strange approach to a home match, neither side looked particularly good, possession favoured Queens but we never looked like scoring, whilst Clyde were, well Clyde!
