This afternoon Queen's ensured their Second Division survival with an impressive away win at sunny Arbroath. The defence today consisted of four twenty one year olds and an eighteen year old, infact the average age of the staring eleven was a mere 22 years old. The eighteen year old in defence was Adam Moffat who had a solid game covering for the injured again Jim Thompson, JT twisted his ankle in the midweek cup defeat at Tarff and failed a late fitness test. Other than this the team was largely as expected.

Queen's opened brightly and made a few good chances, Mark Weir had a good effort well saved by the impressive Arbroath keeper and Charlie Adams shot over the bar from close range, Jamie McAllister and Dennis Boyle also had good efforts well saved in the opening twenty five minutes or so. A goal was not long in coming however and it was the back on form predator Stevie Mallan who capitalised on good work from Denis Boyle and Marc Cleeland to send Queens in at the interval 1-0 up. Although Arbroath had come back into the match more in the last ten minutes of the match.

The second half started with Queen's having their backs to the wall for a good period and David Mathieson underlined his current resurgence in form with a couple of excellent saves to deny the Arbroath frontmen. Whilst Queens were under the cosh there were a couple of breakaway moments where the lead could have been increased, mainly through the enterprise of big Derek Townsley. On one occasion his header just grazed the top of the bar.

Stevie Mallan too was unlucky when he was released on goal by a tremendous through ball from Andy Aitken, but this time Stevie's finishing let him down. This was however, merely a stay of execution for the Red Lichties, as shortly after Stevie made amends with his second goal when he accepted a precise Bailey pass and cleverly lobbed the keeper.

That was the end of the action and the travelling fans left happy with a solid display and the knowledge that the management duo of Rowe and Eadie had completed their mini miracle in rescuing Queens from the oblivion of the Third Division, never mind Manager of the Month, how about Managers of the Year.

ElsewherePartick made sure of survival, unless that is Queens defeat them something like fourteen nil next week and East Fife win, so Tam Bryce can sleep easy now. Livvie take over at the top of the league and look like Champions now after defeating Caley by the odd goal in seven. Prime candidates for relegation remain East Fife, however Stirling Albion can still go down if the Fifers win and they lose next Saturday.
